Player of the Week: Brayden Boccia, Milford Wrestling

Milford sophomore Brayden Boccia has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Jan. 11 through Jan. 17. Boccia is the 19th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the fifth in the winter season.

Boccia took first place at 126 pounds at the Woburn Invitational over the weekend and was named Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weight classes. The sophomore, who reached an all-state final and the quarterfinals at New Englands in his freshman season, also earned a win at 132 pounds in the league dual meet against Franklin to keep the defending champion Hawks unbeaten in Hock play.

“Brayden has been working hard all season and he has been looking forward to wrestling elite competition,” said Milford head coach PJ Boccia. “He has made a big jump from freshman year and as his father and coach it is nice to see the hard work paying off. We are at the half way point in the season and we are going to continue to work hard and see what the postseason brings.”

On Wednesday at Franklin, Boccia moved back a weight class to fill in for an injury and he won by fall to give the Hawks a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. At Woburn, Boccia (who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed) started the day with a tech fall (18-3) in the first round and then pinned Franklin’s Ben Ellis with 1:28 left in the first period. In the semifinals, Boccia faced fellow sophomore Nathan Morales of Andover. He had a takedown in the first and a reversal in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Morales got a takedown early in the third, but Boccia escaped later in the period and advanced with a 6-3 win.

In the final, Boccia (25-1) squared off against Shawsheen Tech’s defending Div. 1 champ and the tournament’s top seed Dante Giusti (#3 in New England), who beat Boccia in the semifinals of this year’s Lowell Holiday Tournament. After a scoreless first period, Giusti escaped to go in front 1-0 after two. Boccia tied it with an escape early in the third and grabbed the lead with a takedown inside the final minute of the match. Giusti cut the lead to just one with a reversal, but Boccia escaped and held on for a 5-3 win to bring home the title, avenging his only loss of the season.

Player of the Week: Connor Houle, Attleboro Basketball

Attleboro senior Connor Houle has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Jan. 4 through Jan. 10. Houle is the 18th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the fourth in the winter season.

Houle set a new career-high for scoring in Attleboro’s big win against Davenport-leading Oliver Ames and then, a few days later, he scored in double digits to help his father, Attleboro coach Mark Houle, secure his 400th career win by beating Franklin.

“Connor’s leadership and contributions on both ends of the court have set a standard for our team,” said head coach Mark Houle. “He prides himself in taking care of the ball and creating opportunities for his teammates. Being the primary ball handler and being pressured, he remains confident and makes the best decisions for our team consistently. And he takes care of the ball – having a 3/1 assist-to-turnover ratio shows he can create for his teammates and himself (18.0 ppg) when needed. Beyond the stats, most importantly, he is a great teammate and I am very proud of him!”

After scoring 11 points and dishing out eight assists in Attleboro’s blowout of Milford, Houle had one of the best games of his career in the showdown at OA. The Tigers trimmed a 13-point lead down to just three in the fourth quarter, but Houle closed it out for the Bombardiers. He knocked down three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt and hit a tough fadeaway jumper that turned out to be the dagger. It completed a 32-point night for the senior point guard (23 in the first half), and he also had five rebounds and six assists. On Friday, Houle scored 10 points and added six assists and four rebounds as Attleboro ran away from Franklin in the second half to earn his father a milestone victory.

Player of the Week: Katelyn Troilo, Mansfield Basketball

Mansfield senior Katelyn Troilo has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Dec. 28 through Jan. 3. Troilo is the 17th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the third in the winter season.

Troilo led the Hornets in scoring in all three games last week, including a career-high 27 points against Stoughton, as Mansfield went 2-1 over the holidays and retained its spot in a three-way tie atop the Davenport division.

“Katelyn has been a great leader this season on both ends of the court,” said Mansfield coach Heather McPherson. “She is someone we can count on to make a big play both offensively and defensively. She is continuing to show her ability to score in the paint and behind the arc while playing at the same pace defensively averaging six rebounds and three steals a game.”

The week started with a visit from unbeaten Fontbonne and Mansfield pulled away from the Ducks with an offensive explosion in the third quarter and lockdown defense in the fourth. Troilo scored half of her game-high 24 points in the third, including two three-pointers and a pair of traditional three-point plays, to spark the blowout. On New Year’s Eve, the Hornets took on state power St. Mary’s and, despite being down two starters, hung with the Spartans through halftime before running out of steam. Troilo kept the Hornets in it with a team-high 13 (10 in the second half). On Friday, the Hornets bounced back with a dominant win over Stoughton. Troilo was on fire, knocking down seven shots from beyond the arc and outscoring the Black Knights on her own (27-26).

Player of the Week: Peter Gubka, Franklin Track

Franklin senior Peter Gubka has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Dec. 14 through Dec. 20. Gubka is the 16th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the second in the winter season.

Gubka won three events and set a pair of Hockomock-best times in the opening meet on Thursday night at The TRACK at New Balance, helping the Panthers kick off the dual meet season with a 61-38 win over rival King Philip.

“Pete attributes this early success to a focused and productive off season as he looks to lead Franklin in the 2025-2026 Indoor Track Season,” said head coach Nick Bailey.

The senior sprinter won the 55-meter hurdles, the 55-meter dash, and the long jump against KP. Gubka set a personal-best and Hock-best time in the hurdles (7.85) and did the same in the dash (6.62), breaking the Franklin school record in the process. He won the hurdles by more than a second over KP’s Connor McDonald. Franklin won all three of the field events, including Gubka in the long jump with a distance of 20’0.50 (which was fourth overall at the meet).

Player of the Week: Kiki Lynch, King Philip Hockey

King Philip senior Kiki Lynch has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Dec. 7 through Dec. 13. Lynch is the 15th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year and the first in the winter season.

Lynch came through with 17 saves against Canton, as the Warriors opened their first season as defending Hockomock League champions with a 2-0 shutout of rival Canton at the Foxboro Sports Center. It gives KP a very early leg up in this season’s title race, which should come down to the rematch with the Bulldogs on the last day of January.

KP coach Ken Assad said after the Canton game, “PK kills us. It ruins your momentum. But, having a backstop like Kiki, it just calms you down a little bit. It’s just a soothing, calmness that she provides for me.”

There wasn’t much for Lynch to do in the first period. She made two relatively comfortable saves, as the Warriors got off on the front foot and took a 1-0 lead. In the second, Lynch showed why she’s one of the top shot stoppers in the area. Canton got an early power play and peppered the KP goalie, who made six saves to preserve the lead, including a pair of close-range shots from Lauren Raffetto and a chance for Rori Sasin in the slot. KP doubled its lead a few minutes later. Lynch also needed to be strong in the closing stretch of the game, with Canton pressing to get on the board, and she came through with a clutch poke check on a 3-on-1 break and another save on a shot from the slot.

Player of the Week: Zach Gebhard, King Philip Football

King Philip senior Zach Gebhard has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 30 through Dec. 6. Gebhard is the 14th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

Gebhard was integral to KP’s 21-10 win over North Attleboro in the Div. 3 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium on Friday night. He completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 65 yards, rushed for a score, and set up another touchdown with a run down to the one-yard-line. It was KP’s second state title in the past three seasons and fourth title in the last decade (the Warriors improved to 4-4 in Super Bowls since 2016).

After North took the lead on its first possession, Gebhard and the Warriors answered right back. Gebhard hit Kyle Danson for a 17-yard pass to get into the red zone. A few plays later, on fourth and one from the two, Gebhard got the call and pushed into the end zone to tie it. North regained the lead with a field goal but the Warriors came right back with a long drive. Gebhard again completed a pass to Danson and then dropped a pass into Liam McGrath for 15 yards. On third down, Gebhard broke the pocket, rolling out to the right sideline and racing for 17 yards to the goal line. His run set up a Ryan Greenwood for what turned out to be the game-winning score.

Oliver Ames senior Luke Fernald has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 23 through Nov. 29. Fernald is the 13th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

Fernald closed out his high school football career with a flourish on Thanksgiving Day, accounting for four touchdowns in OA’s 36-22 win over Sharon. He went 18-for-32 for 215 yards with three touchdown passes (and a two-point conversion) and rushed for one as well, helping the Tigers come from a point down at the start of the second half and finish the season on a high note. For the season, he had 1,702 yards with 20 total touchdowns (18 passing, 2 rushing).

“Luke kept the team in the game during the first half with touchdown passes of 57 and 13 yards while accounting for a 7-yard touchdown rush,” said Oliver Ames head coach John Sperrazza. “OA finished with over 400 yards of offense under Luke’s direction. Luke has been the leader of our offense all season. A tireless work ethic and strong leader.”

Fernald got the scoring started with a 57-yard pass to Ryan Loring. Sharon answered right back and took an 8-7 lead, but Fernald capped another scoring drive for the Tigers with an eight-yard rush. The game went back and forth, as Sharon responded with a touchdown to tie it up. Fernald fired a 13-yard TD to Jack Giovanello to put OA in front, but the Eagles would get the score back and tacked on the conversion to make it 22-21 at halftime. After Desahn Walker restored OA’s lead, Fernald completed a pass to Aiden Dale for the two-point conversion. In the fourth quarter, Fernald sealed the OA win with a 12-yard pass to Jacob Melton.

Player of the Week: Cam DeLeskey, Foxboro Football

Foxboro senior Cam DeLeskey has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 16 through Nov. 22. DeLeskey is the 12th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

DeLeskey completed each of his nine passes on Saturday afternoon and accounted for a pair of touchdowns to help Foxboro roll to a 31-0 win over Archbishop Williams and advance to the program’s third straight Div. 5 Super Bowl. The Warriors will get a rematch with top seed Shawsheen Tech on Friday, Dec. 5 at Gillette Stadium (Shawsheen won last year’s Super Bowl and Foxboro beat Shawsheen on the way to its 2023 title).

DeLeskey tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the opening round against Norton and added one more against Gloucester to reach the Final Four. He was perfect through the air (9-for-9) on Saturday against Archies, throwing for 183 yards. On the opening two drives, DeLeskey hit Jackson Bohlen and Kameron Rice to set up touchdowns. He took the second one in himself with a sneak from the one-yard-line. In the final two minutes of the half, DeLeskey hit Jack Taft in stride on a 25-yard wheel route to make it 31-0 going into the break. Before heading to the Super Bowl, DeLeskey and the Warriors face Mansfield on Thanksgiving Day with a share of the Davenport title on the line.

Player of the Week: Phoebe O’Connor, Franklin Volleyball

Franklin freshman Phoebe O’Connor has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 9 through Nov. 15. O’Connor is the 11th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

O’Connor set the table for the Franklin attack throughout the season, finishing with more than 500 kills in her rookie campaign, and she continued her impressive passing on Saturday night to help the Panthers rally against defending champ Newton North in the Div. 1 final at Billerica High and clinch their first state title.

“Phoebe has been amazing for us over our playoff run and into the state final on Saturday,” said Franklin coach Chris Ridolfi. “Beyond her setting duties she’s been a solid defender and has scored with her serve and block. She certainly played ‘older’ than a freshman in the final and was a big reason for our success in the championship match.”

In the first playoff match of her career, O’Connor dealt out 30 assists and a couple of aces in a dominant sweep of Braintree. She was even better in the Sweet Sixteen, finishing with 38 assists in another sweep of Lincoln-Sudbury. Her all-around skills were on display in the quarterfinal. O’Connor had 37 assists, three aces, and 24 digs and the Panthers rolled to a big win at Andover.

Against Newton South in the Final Four, O’Connor continued to run the offense, dishing out 31 assists and adding a pair of aces and 10 digs in yet another 3-0 win. She got the Panthers off to a great start in the final with three blocks in the first set. O’Connor finished with 38 assists, five aces, and six blocks, as Franklin came roaring back to win the fourth and fifth sets to pull the upset. The Panthers finished the season on an 18-match win streak.

Player of the Week: Frankie Strachan, North Attleboro Football

North Attleboro senior Frankie Strachan has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 2 through Nov. 8. Strachan is the 10th athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

Strachan was the workhorse for the North offense for the second week in a row, helping the Rocketeers come back from 14 points down to beat Milford in the opening round of the Div. 3 state tournament. He carried the ball more than 30 times (for the second consecutive week) and rushed for more than 200 yards and three scores against the Hawks.

“If you give Frankie any room at all, he’s going to grind and take it,” said North Attleboro head coach Mike Strachan. “He’s just an absolute animal.”

North found itself down 14-0 to Milford with less than six minutes to play in the first half. Strachan and Nathaniel Robin combined to carry the ball 10 straight times and Strachan punched it in from the one to get North on the board before the break. North got the ball to start the second half and marched downfield to tie the game, this time on a three-yard rush from Strachan. The Rocketeers got the ball back with three minutes left in the third and gave it to Strachan on 11 straight plays. At the one-yard-line, Strachan came out for a snap and Milford stuffed the play. So, Strachan came back in and bullied his way into the end zone to give the hosts a 21-14 lead.

Over the past two weeks, in close wins against league rivals Milford and Foxboro, Strachan has carried the ball 71 times for 379 yards and four touchdowns.
