#20 Milford, 1 @ #6 Lexington, 2 – Final (2OT)A short-handed Milford squad tied the game late in regulation but fell with just minutes left in double overtime. Trailing 1-0 and down to just 10 men after two yellows, Arthur Tome found the back of the net with two minutes to go, finishing off a pass from J’remy Chaves. Lexington scored off a clearance on a one-timer from just inside the box that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.

#34 Attleboro, 0 @ #2 Needham, 2 – FinalAttleboro battled one of the top teams in the state from start to finish before falling in the final minutes. Needham scored twice in the final 10 minutes to play to get the win. Sophomore Tyler Rocchio had a strong game in net for the Bombardiers.

#26 Franklin, 1 @ #7 Framingham, 2 – Final

Division 2
#21 Canton, 3 @ #12 Woburn, 1 – FinalCanton overcame an early first half deficit, scoring three unanswered goals to earn the upset win on the road. The Bulldogs pulled level right around the midway point of the first half when Jake McCabe whipped in a free kick from the left sideline and Erik Valdovinos flicked a header to the far post to make it 1-1. The Bulldogs jumped ahead just over five minutes after a nice defensive win from Carson Eagles saw a long ball played out of the ball where McCabe flicked it on, sending Valdovinos in behind the defense. He raced into the box and slid it across to a wide open Jacob Crugnale for the tap in in the 27th minute. Valdovinos iced the game with his second goal, burying a loose ball in the area after an initial shot was blocked. Canton will play either #5 Agawam or #28 Ashland depending on the result of that game on Sunday.

#29 Reading, 0 @ #2 Franklin, 1 – Final (OT)Freshman Kelly O’Connor popped up with a clutch header in the first overtime period to lift the Panthers to a win in their playoff opener. After a scoreless game that saw Franklin pick up its intensity in the second half and OT, Stella Regan played a ball into the box and O’Connor was there to head in the winner in her playoff debut. Franklin advances to host No. 13 Brookline on Tuesday.

#18 Westford Academy, 1 @ #15 King Philip, 2 – FinalIn a rematch of the 2017 state semifinal game, KP scored in the second half to pull out a win and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. KP will travel to No. 2 seed Bishop Feehan on Tuesday night, which is a rematch of a game from earlier this season that the Shamrocks won.

#27 Attleboro, 0 @ #6 Natick, 4 – FinalAttleboro battled against Bay State Conference power Natick, but was unable to extend its playoff run. Goalie Alexis Campbell and defender Olivia Calderone both had strong games for the Bombardiers to keep Natick at four goals. Attleboro coach Steve Santos was full of praise for his team, which was in the postseason for the first time in more than a decade. He said, “Our team battled and played their hearts out. Proud of fight.”

#28 North Attleboro, 0 @ #5 Danvers, 1 – Final (PKs)North Attleboro gave the 5th-seeded Falcons of Danvers High all they could handle but ultimately fell in penalty kicks. Maddie Ferrin played amazing in goal for the Rocketeers while Summer Doherty marked the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year and All American Arianna Bezanson and held her scoreless. North nearly took the lead late in the first half but Brayden Rice’s shot hit the post and stayed out.

Junior Haley Bright made six saves in net to keep the Warriors close, including a pair of diving stops and a one-handed stop on an aerial shot. Senior Sydney O’Shea, senior Molly Piller, and sophomore Kelly Holmes all played well for KP.

Emily Sawyer led the offense with 13 kills and two blocks while Ahunna James added 10 kills. Gianna DeLorenzo chipped in with four aces while Samantha Asprelli recorded six digs. King Philip will host #15 Notre Dame Academy on Tuesday at 5:00 in a Sweet 16 matchup.

#26 Masconomet, 0 @ #7 Oliver Ames, 3 – FinalSophomore Sarah Hilliard had a stellar postseason debut, leading the Tigers to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) sweep over visiting Masconomet. Hilliard registered 14 kills while classmate Claire O’Rourke added 12 kills in the win. Senior Hadley Rhodes had 24 assists and six kills and Maddie Homer added 25 digs. OA will host #10 Woburn on Tuesday at 6:00 in a Sweet 16 matchup.

#39 Malden, 0 @ #26 Franklin, 5 – FinalFranklin matched its best scoring output of the season in its playoff opener, rolling to a big win over visiting Malden. Senior Tyler Powderly finished off a pass from classmate Jack Moran to give the Panthers an early lead and Franklin never looked back. Sophomore Rex Cinelli scored back-to-back goals, his first two goals of the season on assists from junior Max Tobin (to make it 2-0) and from senior Kevin Proenca (to make it 3-0). Sophomore Sean O’Leary (from junior Will Krysak) scored to make it 4-0 while Jacob Crisileo (from Connor Brown) capped the goals with a late strike. Franklin will travel to #7 Framingham to take on the Flyers on Saturday at 6:00 at Bowditch Field.

#34 Attleboro, 2 @ #31 New Bedford, 1 – Final (PKs)Sophomore Tyler Rocchio denied the Whalers’ on their fourth attempt to secure a win on the road for Attleboro, a 4-2 edge in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation. Sophomore Alex Vecchioli scored just three minutes into the second half, finishing off a pass from Billy Badger. In penalty kicks, Vecchioli, Esvin Morales, Cashel Stuger, and Kyle Neuendorf all scored to help the Bombardiers book a trip to the next round. Attleboro will travel to #2 Needham on Saturday at 2:00.

#33 North Attleboro, 0 @ #32 Dartmouth, 1 – Final (PKs)North Attleboro battled through regulation, overtime, penalty kicks, and into one extra round of penalties before falling to Dartmouth in a closely contested game. The Rocketeers saw its first five players convert from the spot but Dartmouth did as well, and it was the hosts who scored in the first additional round to get the win.

#36 Marblehead, 2 @ #29 Mansfield, 1 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this match. Marblehead took advantage of a slip at the back and a loose ball in the box to score once in each half and then held on to grab the road win. Michael Caridi’s long throw went off the fingers of the keeper in the 67th minute, cutting the lead to just one and setting up a an exciting finish. Mansfield had its chances throughout the match. After falling behind in the eighth minute, Matt Hyland nearly got onto the end of a pass from Andrew Bain but the keeper was out quick to smother and Daniel Checkoway had a shot that was cleared off the line. At the half-hour mark, the Hornets had a flurry of chances that started with a long throw on the far sideline. Hyland flicked on Dylan Buchanan’s throw forcing a great diving save. Off the corner, Ian Leeds drew another great save and Nate Kablik’s rebound effort was blocked on its way to goal. Checkoway then headed the ball towards goal and off the knee of a defender, sending it just over the bar. Hyland blazed over from inside the box and Connor Palinski shot wide after being played in behind the right back. Jack Lasbury-Casey made a big save on a breakaway in the final minutes to give Mansfield one last chance.

Girls Soccer
Division 1

#38 Springfield Central, 1 @ #27 Attleboro, 3 – Final – The Bombardiers scored the first three goals of the match to seal a preliminary round win and advance in the state tournament. Jamie Davies scored the opening goal just four minutes in, assisted by Emily Khang, and then added her second of the day in the final minute of the first half. Bethany Alves assisted the second goal. Davies recorded her third point of the day when she set up Kahlan Gray for a third goal five minutes into the second half. Head coach Steve Santos praised his team’s energy from the opening whistle and said it was a “Great team victory!”

#37 Somerville, 0 @ #28 North Attleboro, 3 – FinalSteph McKenna scored a second half brace to lead the Rocketeers to a win in the Div. 2 preliminary round. After a scoreless first half, McKenna found the back of the net in the 45th minute, assisted by Charlotte Moynihan, and then doubled the lead seven minutes later, this time off a pass from Lily Adams. Emma Pratt closed out the scoring just before the half-hour mark, with Moynihan recording her second helper of the game. Brayden Rice had solid delivery from corner kicks that led to several second half chances. Caroline Ferrin, Brooke Sullivan, Haley Sinacola, Autumn Hewitt, and Summer Doherty dominated the midfield and defensive third for North, holding Somerville to only two shots. Maddie Ferrin earned her sixth clean sheet of the season.

#29 Beverly, 0 @ #4 Franklin, 6 – FinalAfter a scoreless first quarter, Franklin scored three goals in just over a span of four minutes and the Panthers never looked back from there in a win over Beverly. Junior Payten Crandall broke through just over a minute into the second quarter and junior Kaitlyn Carney scored twice within a three-minute span to make it 3-0 at halftime. Kaeley Dubriske (from Kaitlyn Carney) had the lone goal of the third quarter while Shaw Downing (from Crandall) and Emily Carney had fourth quarter goals. Megan Sullivan made three saves to earn the shutout. Franklin will host the winner of the #13 Central Catholic/#20 Attleboro game on Tuesday with a time to be determined.

Syd Gallery had a great match for the Bulldogs with 10 kills, three blocks, and an ace while Jess Wright added 12 kills, a pair of blocks, and 10 digs. Anna Verille was amazing defensively with 18 digs along with four kills and two aces, and Taylor Reynolds added 33 assists, a pair of aces and six digs. “It was a great comeback match by the entire team!” said Canton head coach Pat Cawley.

After a scoreless first half with few chances for either team, North scored three times in the final 40 minutes to win the Leach and Garner Cup and also clinch a spot in the postseason. In the 54th minute, Kaden Burns got the ball on the right side of the box and fired a shot into the far corner for what turned out to be the game-winner. Twelve minutes later, freshman Patrick Etienvre took a shot from 25 yards out that took a big deflection in the box, wrong-footed the keeper, and found the back of the net to double North’s lead. In the closing moments of the match, Carson Dameron’s free kick from the right side found Patrick McDermott on the back post for a third goal. Both teams will wait for seedings to be released to see who their playoff matchups will be.

Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ North Attleboro, 0 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this match. Emily Dunlea’s dipping, 25-yard shot turned out to be the lone goal of the match, lifting Attleboro to a win in the annual Blue-Red Cup at North. The junior midfielder found the back of the net midway through the first half, assisted by Emily Khang, and it was enough for the Bombardiers to sweep the season series and build momentum for the postseason. North, which was playing its second game in 13 hours, had its chances to equalize in the match, with Steph McKenna coming close a couple of times only to be denied by Attleboro keeper Alexis Campbell. North was unable to clinch a playoff berth but should be in the top 32 in D2 when seedings are announced this week.

Jorge Nebril, ZaZa Franceour (two assists), Ryan Kovner, and Sam Mayer each scored their first career goals for the Dogs. Jake McCabe and Drew Garrett also scored in the win

Silva de Souza headed in a great cross from classmate Rhuan Carvalho to put the Knights ahead in the 64th minute. Sophomore keeper Ben Shirey made a terrific diving save two minutes later to help preserve the lead at the time.

Milford, 2 vs. Malden Catholic, 1 – FinalAmy Oliveira broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half to earn the Hawks a win in the regular season finale. Brooke Ferreira opened the scoring for Milford and Kailany Ferreira made 10 saves to help the Hawks close on a high note.

Oliver Ames, 4 @ North Attleboro, 1 – FinalCamryn O’Connor recorded three points as the Tigers went on the road and beat North Attleboro, clinching sole possession of the Hockomock League’s Davenport division title. O’Connor scored a pair of goals for OA, who had a 3-0 advantage at halftime. Halle Kander and Katie Gibson also scored for the Tigers while Lucinda Li Cotter, Alexa Lane, and Allison Evin each had an assist.

Stoughton, 1 @ Sharon, 4 – FinalSofia Goclowski and Olivia Soby each scored twice and assisted on another to help the Eagles split the season series with Stoughton. Bianca Casna scored for the Black Knights. Amber Marcus-Blank had another strong performance for Sharon’s defense. Casna and Makenzie O’Connor proved to be a solid pairing in the attack for Stoughton and Samantha Tran had another solid all-around game.

Milford, 0 @ Franklin, 11 – FinalFranklin exploded for five goals in the first quarter of the game and never looked back to knock off Milford, finishing undefeated in league action this year. Kaitlyn Carney had a hat trick in the first quarter and finished the game with four goals while Shaw Downing (three goals) and Haley Wernig (two goals) also scored in the first quarter. Delaney Hess and Emily Carney (two assists) each added a goal in the win while Kendall Jones and Raena Crandall each had an assist in the win.

King Philip, 0 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalAfter a close contest in the first meeting, King Philip and Attleboro finished level this time around as both squads wrapped up their respective regular seasons with a point. Sophomore Kelly Holmes had another outstanding game for the Warriors with eight shots on goal and a handful of corners created. Holmes also played well defensively, thwarting the Bombardiers’ offensive attempts throughout the game. Christina Gifun, Molly Piller, and Margo Riley also played well for KP.

Taunton, 2 @ Mansfield, 1 – FinalAfter a scoreless first half, Taunton found the back of the net twice to knock off Mansfield on the road and put themselves in position to possibly make the playoffs under the state’s new rating system. According to the MIAA’s latest update, the Tigers sat at 36th in Division 1 but have gone 2-1 since (the top 32 rated teams make it plus any team over .500). Caelen O’Leary (from Ashley Amaro) put the visitors ahead and Jasmine Lucier (from Braeley MacDonald) doubled the lead. Maddie Brown scored in the fourth quarter for Mansfield. Em Gannon made 11 saves in net for the win while Kylie Thorpe, Kaysie DeMoura, and Thalia Nogueira also played well for the Tigers.

Volleyball
Canton, 3 vs. Quincy, 0 – FinalCanton picked up one of its best wins of the season, sweeping Quincy 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-19). Quincy is one of the top-ranked teams in Division 1 and won its division in the Patriot League this season. Syd Gallery (nine kills, two blocks, six digs, and two aces) and Talya DeGraw (five kills, 15 digs, two aces) both had strong all-around games for the Bulldogs while. Fatima Sidibay added six kills and four blocks. Anna Verille anchored the defense with 19 digs and Taylor Reynolds ran the offense with 29 assists.

Attleboro, 0 @ Mansfield, 1 – FinalMansfield ended the regular season on a high note, knocking off Attleboro in a well-played game by two evenly matched sides. The lone goal of the game came in the 9th minute of the game when Danny Rowe finished off a flicked on header by Liam Anastasia. Michael Caridi had the throw-in to get the sequence started. Caridi, Dylan Buchanan, Kevin McCarthy, and Ian Leeds played well defensively in front of Jack Lasbury-Casey, who made nine saves for his eighth shutout of the year.

Milford, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – FinalMilford junior Arthur Tome bagged a first half brace as the Scarlet Hawks claimed sole possession of the Kelley-Rex division title with a win over Taunton. Eduardo Santana earned a penalty kick and Tome buried it, and then Santana got an assist to set up Tome for a 2-0 led. Chris Tocci added to the lead with a goal in the second half, finishing off a feed from Nick Ribeiro.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – FinalOliver Ames finally solved the puzzle that was the North Attleboro defense, scoring the lone goal of the game with less than five minutes left to play. The Rocketeers denied the Tigers throughout the game with a defensive-minded approach but OA freshman Casey Milliken finished off a pass from Antonio Fernandes to help the hosts earn two points in OA’s season finale. North Attleboro will finish its regular season on Saturday against Attleboro in the annual Leach & Garner Cup.

Girls Soccer
Mansfield, 1 @ Attleboro, 1 – FinalMansfield and Attleboro traded first half goals and finished in a draw. With the point, the Bombardiers clinched a return to the postseason for the first time since 2014. Kara Santos opened the scoring, finishing a corner kick from Tarynn Smith midway through the first half. About 11 minutes later, Attleboro equalized to seal a critical point.

King Philip, 0 @ Franklin, 2 – FinalAfter a scoreless first half, Franklin finally broke through a stingy King Philip defense just over a minute into the second half and added a late insurance goal to get the win. The Panthers clinched the Kelley-Rex division title outright with the victory at home. Freshman Raena Crandall scored an unassisted goal 68 seconds into the third quarter while freshman Haley Wernig doubled the lead with less than five minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Sophia Cuneo, Emily Carney, Kaeley Dubriske all played well for the Panthers. KP sophomore Kelly Holmes had an outstanding game, nearly scoring on a pair of occasions. Seniors Margo Riley, Haley Izydorczak, and Lily Brown also played well for the Warriors while junior Haley Bright recorded 10 saves.

Taunton, 2 @ Milford, 0 – FinalTaunton scored once in each half to grab a win on the road over Milford, sweeping the season series with the Hawks. Junior Caelyn O’Leary put the visitors out in front off an assist from senior Kylie Thorpe and the Tigers took that 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Ashley Amaro scored an unassisted goal in the second half to double Taunton’s lead while Em Gannon recorded the shutout in net for the Tigers.

Stoughton, 2 @ Sharon, 0 – Final Sydney Menz and Mia Allie each scored once as Stoughton went on the road and picked up two points with a victory over the Eagles. Stephanie Costeria and Sarah Horner combined to earn the shutout and win in net for the Black Knights while Jane Hendrixson played well for Sharon.

Mansfield, 1 @ Attleboro, 3 – FinalWhile it looked like Attleboro was going to make the playoffs based on their latest ranking, the Bombardiers made sure they were headed to the postseason for the first time since 2008 by scoring an upset over Mansfield, 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 25-23). Attleboro earned its ninth win of the season, securing a .500 record which is an automatic qualifier for the playoffs.In the win, Natalie Brojek dished out 29 assists and had a strong showing at the service line with nine aces. Lilly Boedeker (10 digs) and Julia Leonardo (eight digs, 15 kills) anchored the defense for the hosts.

Canton, 3 @ Foxboro, 0 – FinalCanton capped off its league schedule with a sweep on the road over Foxboro, taking a 3-0 verdict (25-14, 25-15, 25-18). It was another great team effort for the Bulldogs, led by Amaiah Christian with three kills, two blocks, two digs, and an ace. Jess Vo played great defense in her first varsity start while Zoe Scibelli also had a great defensive match.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – FinalOliver Ames entered Thursday’s match already having earned no less than a share of the Davenport division title, but the Tigers didn’t want to share. OA won the title outright for the first time with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) of North Attleboro, avenging a loss to the Rocketeers from earlier this season. Sophomore Sarah Hilliard put down 18 kills and added 16 digs in the win, senior Hadley Rhodes recorded 26 assists, senior Kelli Crowley added four blocks, and senior Amanda Barth chipped in with seven aces.

Canton, 3 @ Foxboro, 3 – FinalFoxboro battled back with three goals in the second half to pull out a draw and move one point in front of OA in the Davenport standings, with the Tigers’ game at North postponed. Canton also secured an important point that moved the Bulldogs back to .500 and clinches a playoff berth. Emily McCabe had a first half brace and her sister Allie added the third. Emma Cahill assisted two of the goals, as Canton became the first team this season to score more than two goals against the Warriors. The Warriors responded after the break with three goals of their own. Megan Burke sparked the comeback with Foxboro’s opening goal and then Jordan Carman and Kailee McCabe each found the back of the net to put the pressure back on OA in the league title race.

King Philip, 0 @ Franklin, 2 – FinalThe Panthers got goals from Kelly O’Connor and Anya Zub to close the season with another solid league win. Franklin, which had already clinched the outright Kelley-Rex title, held off the Warriors thanks to an 11-save night from goalie Rachel Welch. Panthers coach Jodi Klein said Welch “is an unsung hero and an incredibly talented goalkeeper.” Stella Regan and Selene Hammad assisted on Franklin’s goals.
