Boys Swimming
Mansfield, 69 @ Franklin, 80 – Final – For Mansfield, Rico Palanza took first in both the 50 free and the 100 fly and 200 free relay team of Ryan Morley, Neil Dalpe, Jack Friedman and Xavier Gwynne. Palanza was just shy of the South Sectional qualifying time in the 50 free, swimming the fourth fastest time in Mansfield program history.

North Attleboro @ Sharon, 6:00

Girls Swimming
Mansfield, 63 @ Franklin, 99 – Final – Mansfield’s Sofia Seifert had a second and third finish individually and helped the 200 medley relay to a second place finish. Seifer took second in the 50 free and third in the 100 breaststroke, and teamed up with Carla Guirguis, Katherine Elliott, and Dana Guirguis for second in the 200 medley relay. For diving, Caitlyn Zajac was first with a score of 179.92 and Paige Pushee took second with a 140.40.

Boys Hockey
Franklin, 4 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Franklin scored four unanswered goals in the third period to grab a non-league win over Canton. The Bulldogs struck first in the opening period on a goal from senior Andrew Valkanas, assisted by Brendan Tourgee. After a scoreless second period, the Panthers scored three times in a span just over three minutes. Senior Domenic Lampasona knotted the game at 1-1 (from Anthony Lampasona and Ben Paterson) and just two over minutes later, Paterson (from Ben Jarosza and Adam Quinn) converted a power play chance to take the lead. Less than a minute after taking the lead, Dylan Marchand extended the edge to two goals on a goal assisted by Logan Marchand and Domenic Lampasona. Jarosz tacked on an empty netter with just under a minute to go. Franklin sophomore Cole Pouliot-Porter had a stellar showing in net for the Panthers.

Mansfield, 0 vs. Malden Catholic, 6 – Final

North Attleboro, 2 vs. Norton, 1 – Final

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Sophomore Jack Corey assisted on one goal and scored the game-winner to lead Oliver Ames to a season opening win over Stoughton. Corey assisted on a goal from Jack Perron while freshman Patrick DeLoughrey and sophomore Sean Kearns each had an assist. Sophomore Brandon Burke recorded 18 saves in net to get the win. Josh Greenspoon scored the goal for Stoughton.

Taunton, 5 vs. East Bridgewater, 2 – Final – Nathan Fernandes and Connor McGrath each scored a pair of goals to lead the Tigers to a win in their season opener. Fernandes and McGrath each added an assist in the win while Cam Tomasczycki made 26 saves in net to get the win.

Stoughton, 1 vs. Old Rochester, 5 – Final – Zofia Bangs scored for the Black Knights in a loss to Old Rochester. Ava Buckley and Molly Corvino each had an assist on the goal.

North Attleboro, 46 @ Wayland, 31 – Final – North Attleboro earned eight wins, seven of which came by pinfall, to knock off Wayland. Tanner Ferguson (120, 3:53), Braxton Ferro (132, 4:44), Christopher Galligan (138, 0:41), Benjamin Lodi (160, 1:56), Dylan Vigstol (170, 1:53), Greg Berthiaume (182, 1:42), and Keysun Wise (285, 1:03) all won by fall while Austin Dean (195) picked up a win via major decision.

Boys Basketball
Attleboro, 49 @ Oliver Ames, 44 – Final – Attleboro went on the road and grinded out a key win over a tough Oliver Ames squad in a see-saw battle. The host Tigers got off to a strong start with a 15-7 lead after a quarter of play but the Bombardiers got back into it with their best offensive quarter of the game as five players combined for 17 points which translated into a 24-22 halftime lead. Oliver Ames answered with another strong defensive quarter and took a 35-33 edge into the final quarter. In the fourth, Attleboro went 8-for-14 from the free throw line and had five players contribute to the scoring to pull ahead. Junior Trevor White had a team-high 12 points while Alvin Harrison added 11 in the win. Zach Tagliamonte had a team-high 12 points for OA and Drew Baxter added 10 points.

Franklin, 62 @ Canton, 50 – Final – Franklin overcame a hot start and a first quarter deficit to pick up a win over Canton on the road. The Bulldogs hit five threes in the opening quarter for an 18-15 lead but the Panthers clamped down in the second to hold the hosts to six points to grab a 29-24 lead by the break. The Panthers extended their lead to eight (44-36) after 24 minutes and closed it out with a big final quarter to get the win. Sophomore Henry Digiorgio poured in a carer-high 27 points, scoring 12 in the first half and hitting three three-points in the fourth to cement the win. Sophomore Andrew O’Neill added 11 of his career-high 14 points in the second half for his varsity debut. Canton junior Matt Chafin finished with a career-high 16 points to lead Canton while Conor Hunter accounted for four of the Bulldogs’ 10 three-pointers for 12 points.

Milford, 47 @ Sharon, 60 – Final – Sharon used a 14-0 run between the first and second quarters to take a lead, erasing an early 10-point deficit, and never surrendered the lead the rest of the way. Sophomore Nate Katznelson hit a pair of threes in the second quarter and finished with a career-high 16 points, while sophomore Jacob McLoughlin and junior Jack Bates also hit from deep to help the Eagles turn a four-point deficit at the end of the quarter quarter (17-13) to a eight-point lead at halftime (31-23). Junior Matt Baur scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to help close the game out. Milford junior Wyatt Zagami hit five three-pointers and finished with a career-high 19 points in his varsity debut.

Girls Basketball
Oliver Ames, 49 @ Attleboro, 28 – Final – Oliver Ames put the clamps on defensively, holding the Bombardiers to 11 points and never looked back from there to get a win on the road. Sophomore Jasmyn Cooper had a breakout performance for the Tigers, dropping 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Anna Murphy added 11 points and a pair of blocks and senior Caroline Peper had a solid showing with 10 points and eight boards.

Canton, 47 @ Franklin, 67 – Final – Franklin extended its win streak to 36 games with a big win in the opener. Katie Peterson was the top scorer for the hosts with 18 points and Stefany Padula had 16, including four threes. Kiara Cerruti kicked off her senior season with a game-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half, for the Bulldogs. Canton led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Panthers turned it around with a 22-9 second to grab the lead for good. Leading by 13 going into the fourth, Franklin scored 20 points in the final eight minutes to push the lead. Bridget Leo scored 12 points and Olivia Quinn and Brigid Earley each had seven for the Panthers. Sydney Gallery scored seven, all in the second half, and Samya DaSilva added five for the Bulldogs.

North Attleboro, 31 @ Mansfield, 56 – Final – Mansfield broke the game open from the start, pushing out to a 37-14 lead by halftime and rolling to a comfortable win in the season opener. Abby Wager scored all of her game-high 12 points in the opening half for the Hornets and Olivia Salisbury added all of her six points before the break. Anna Darlington and Bridget Hanley both scored eight points in the win. Ava McKeon scored a team-high nine points, including eight in the first half, for North, who struggled to get anything going and had to play from behind right from the start. Freshman Maryellen Charette added seven points for North in her first varsity game.

Sharon, 55 @ Milford, 50 – Final (OT) – Sharon sophomore center Jasmine Davis had a remarkable debut for the Eagles. After sitting out her freshman year, Davis exploded for 32 points and 28 rebounds to lead Sharon to a season-opening, overtime victory at Milford. Despite Davis’ big night, the game was close throughout. Sharon led 20-18 at halftime and the game went into an extra period tied at 46-46. The Eagles outscored Milford 9-4 in the OT to earn the win. Rachel Hager buried four threes to finish with 12 points and Trinity Payne added six for Sharon. Milford was led by senior Maddalena Mannucci Pacini, who also made an impressive varsity debut with 19 points, knocking down four threes. Brooke Ferreira added 12 points and Jill Araujo had six for the Hawks.

Stoughton, 30 @ Taunton, 62 – Final – Kameron St. Pierre marked her return to the Tigers with 23 points to give Taunton a season-opening win. After sitting out her sophomore season, St. Pierre scored 14 points in the first half to help the Tigers jump out to a 28-11 halftime lead. She finished with four made threes on the night. Cali Melo added eight points, all in the second half, and Olivia Gannon also scored eight for the Tigers. Stoughton got 12 points on a trio of threes from Kate Bulger. Evie Lam hit a pair from downtown and had six points and Vanessa Phelimond had six as well for the Black Knights.

Monday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 12/13/21

Boys Hockey
Franklin, 4 @ Needham, 3 – Final – Franklin had four different players light the lamp as the Panthers skated to a win on the road over Needham. Aidan Linehan opened the scoring for the Panthers, who were tied 1-1 after one period of action. Goals from Ryan Sicchio, Dylan Marchand, and Anthony Lampasona pushed Franklin’s advantage to 4-1 in the second period. Needham made it a two-goal game before the end of the second and added another in the third but the Panthers held on.

Girls Hockey
King Philip, 7 vs. Norwell, 3 – Final – King Philip exploded for four goals in the final period to earn its second straight win to start the season. Kelly Holmes scored a hat trick to pace the offense while Morgan Cunningham added a pair of goals. Sydney O’Shea and Catie Putt each scored once in the win.

Boys Indoor Track (@ Wheaton College)
Mansfield, 61 @ Taunton, 38 – Final – University of Michigan-commit Jake Wall picked up right where he left off, winning three events to help Mansfield take down Taunton in the season opener for both teams. Wall won the 55M hurdles (7.95), the high jump (5-04.00), and the long jump (22-03.00). Sophomore Chamberlain Guthrie Jr. and senior Isaiah Kinds followed at second and third in the long jump to give the Hornets the sweep. Chamberlain and Kinds also teamed with Nate Kablik and Nolan Clarke to win the 2×400 relay in 1:44.34 Other winners for Mansfield included Kablik in the 55M dash (6.99), Chris Leonard in the 1000M (2:51.40), Riley Tremblay in the 1 Mile (4:49.01), and Collin Stevens in the 2 Mile (10:41.11). Taunton’s Conal Scully won the 600M with a PR of 1:27.13 and was a member of the winning 4×400 relay team (3:41.46) along with Aidden Fitting, Andrew Cali, and Brayden Cali.

King Philip, 36 @ Attleboro, 64 – Final – Attleboro took first place in seven events and swept both the shot put and the 600M to take a win over King Philip in a meet held at Wheaton College. Chris Leonardo (43-11.00), Isaac Pereira, Isaiah Traore, and Ethan Gattoni took the top four spots in the shot put for the Bombardiers while sophomores Nicolas Graber (1:36.36), Jacob Blazek (1:37.10), and Sean Kaswale (1:37.13) swept the 600M. Senior Kaiden Murray was a big winner for Attleboro, taking first in the 55M dash (6.89), the 55M hurdles (8.98), and the long jump (18-02.00).

Foxboro, 58 @ Canton, 33 – Final – Junior Daniel O’Malley took first in a pair of events and the Warriors won eight events overall, including both relays, to get a win over Canton. O’Malley set a PR with his win in the 300M at 40.65 and then took first in the long jump at 17-09.50. Senior Jared Ciora won the 600M in 1:36.81, junior Brooks Stone took first in the 1000M in 2:57.76, senior Nicolas Olson won the 2 Mile in 10:48.45, and junior Joe Flanagan won the shot put with a toss of 37-11.00.

Girls Indoor Track (@ Wheaton College)
Mansfield, 76.33 @ Taunton, 23.66 – Final

King Philip, 56 @ Attleboro, 43 – Final – King Philip swept the 55M dash and took the top two spots in three over events to open the season with a win over KP. Grace Lawler (7.84), Ahunna James, and Ally Pochay took the top three spots in the 55M dash, Isabelle Watson (10.94) and Madeline Hill were first and second in the 55M hurdles, Kate O’Neil (30-04.75) and James took the top two spots in the shot put, and James (4-10.00) and Watson tied for first in the high jump. Watson also won the long jump for the Warriors with a leap of 14-09.50. Attleboro swept the 600M race with junior Rebecca Rainey winning in 1:52.96 followed by Madison Ellis and Emily Dunlea. Other winners for Attleboro included freshman Julia Leonardo in the 300M (48.33), freshman Emelia Smith in the 1000M (3:37.11), and junior Kacey Parker in the 1 Mile (6:25.41).

Foxboro, 36.5 @ Canton, 62.5 – Final – Canton got a big boost by sweeping a pair of field events and had five different individual winners to knock off Foxboro. Junior Emma Messih won the shot put at 26-01.50 with seniors Maeve Morrissey and Fiona Miller taking second and third. Sophomore Katherine Oliver (14-00.00) won the long jump with Gabby Herivaux and Kiley Hanlon rounding out the top three for the dogs. Hanlon won the 55M dash (7.99), junior Syriah McCruse took first in the 300M (48.64), and senior Ella Lewis earned key points at the high jump at 4-06.00.

Saturday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 12/11/21

Boys Hockey
Canton, 4 @ Lincoln-Sudbury, 5 – Final (OT) – Canton built a 3-1 lead early in the second period but needed a goal in the final minutes to force overtime at 4-4. Jack Digirolamo and Brendan Tourgee put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the first period and a goal from Colin Blake made it 3-1 early in the second. L-S responded with two goals to make it 3-3 after two periods and then took a lead with just over five minutes left. With the goalie pulled, Leo Owens knotted it at 4-4 with 1:21 to play. L-S scored the winner in overtime with just over a minute to play.

Franklin, 2 @ Weymouth, 4 – Final

North Attleboro, 0 @ Bishop Feehan, 3 – Final

Girls Hockey

Stoughton/Sharon, 0 @ Cambridge, 4 – Final – Janelle Murphy played well in net for the Knights with 44 saves.

Wrestling
Westford Academy Quad (Foxboro), 9:00

Mt. Hope (R.I.) Quad Meet (Franklin) – Franklin split for the day, picking up a pair of wins in four matches. The Panthers earned wins over Barnstable (39-18) and Pilgrim (46-6) but dropped two tight contests to Hope (39-38) and Lowell (42-38).

Sharon Quad (Sharon, Mansfield) – Sharon went a perfect 4-0 on the day, rolling to four big wins in the first quad meet of the season. The Eagles had wins over Brookline (54-24), Mansfield (66-12), Leominster (72-4), and Lincoln-Sudbury (82-6). Ashmith Yeruva (106), Vehnil Rangaraman (113), Ben Grabie (160), Gabe Korn (170) and Ron Loebl (285) all earned their first varsity wins on the day for the Eagles.

Milford Quad (Milford) – Milford opened its season in style, picking up convincing wins in all three of its matches on the day. The Hawks knocked off Tewksbury (62-15), Marblehead/Swampscott (69-12), and Wayland (66-16). Aidan Baum, Mikey Boulanger, Robbie Lyons, Joey Testa, Danny Alves, Ryan Donovan, Jack Cruz, Cam Phillips, and Hampton Kaye-Kuter all went 3-0 on the day for Milford.

Devin Ness Memorial Tournament (Oliver Ames) – Oliver Ames took fourth overall in the Devin Ness tournament after sending five wrestlers to the finals. Elyor Ruzmatov (113) had three wins all by pinfall to win his bracket while Giovany Juste won three of his four matches by fall to win at 170. Deric Lipski, Jr. (160), Kyle Hardie (138), and Nathan Lipski (132) each finished second overall for the Tigers.

Watertown Quad (Taunton) – Taunton won all three of its matches to kick off the 2021-2022 season with a bang. The Tigers were victorious over Bristol Aggie (66-15), Watertown (78-6), and Carver (69-12). Brandon Mendes (120), Anthony Viera (126), Xavier Sandoval (132), Luke Fraga (138), Ben Mandeville (145), Christian Balmain (160), Elijah Prophete (170), Ethan Harris (182), Peter Ye (195), and Logan Frank (220) each had three wins for the Tigers.

Ashland Tournament (North Attleboro) – The Rocketeers sent five wrestlers to the finals of the Ashland Early Bird Invitational and earned second place overall. Keysun Wise (285) was the lone champion on the day for the Big Red while Austin Dean (195), Christopher Galligan (138), Jaad Ismail (170), and Tanner Ferguson (120) all earned second overall.

Friday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 12/10/21

Girls Basketball
Stoughton, 28 vs. Brookline, 62 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this game. The Black Knights were down by just nine heading into halftime, but the Warriors broke the game open with a 23-0 third quarter to open the season with the road win. Brookline led 16-6 after one quarter, as Geanna Bryant scored nine of her game-high 17 points, but with Bryant in foul trouble in the second Stoughton was able to win the quarter 8-7. Jess Maddalena, who missed all of last season with injury, had six points and eight rebounds in the first half and Katrina Varnum had four points off the bench. After the Warriors scored 23 points in the first 16 minutes, they doubled that in the next eight. Mariah Washington scored seven of her 11 points in the third and Margo Mattes added seven of her 16. The Black Knights couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end and went into the fourth down 46-14. Stoughton would double its point total with a 14-point fourth quarter. Freshman Raina Tat scored eight points on her varsity debut and Andrea Khouzami buried a three.
