#1 Mansfield, 77 vs. #16 Brockton, 57 – Final – Mansfield senior Sam Goldberg scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half, helping the Hornets build a nine-point lead they wouldn’t relinquish in the second frame. Mansfield’s offense had its best quarter of the night to start the second half, pouring in 23 points to create an 18-point cushion entering the final eight minutes. Goldberg added 11 rebounds to go with his 15 points while classmate Christian Weber netted a team-high 16 points. Junior Tyler Boulter added 13 points while Max Boen finished with nine points. Mansfield will host #8 Quincy on Friday at 6:30.

#7 North Attleboro, 64 vs. #10 Braintree, 67 – Final – North Attleboro clawed its way back into the game on multiple occasions down the stretch but couldn’t overcome the Wamps’ fourth quarter lead. Brent Doherty (26 points) hit six three pointers, including one to cut a seven-point lead to four and one to make it a two point game in the final seconds. Jonny Friberg scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half while sophomore Josh Montague had a career-high nine points for the Rocketeers. Braintree’s Nick Timberlake scored 30 points to lead the Wamps.

#12 Taunton, 58 @ #5 Catholic Memorial, 78 – Final

#10 Foxboro, 54 @ #7 Nauset, 51 – Final (OT)Foxboro saved the best for last, exploding for 21 points in the fourth quarter after having scored just 30 through the first 24 minutes of play. While erasing a seven-point deficit, Mark Clagg (team-high 14 points), Joe Morrison and Matt Rongione each hit a three in the fourth quarter. Jamaine Few scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime while Anthony Barreira chipped in with a career-high 10 points. The Warriors kept Nauset scoreless in the overtime period while Few had a layup and freshman Brandon Borde had a free throw to win the OT period, 3-0. Foxboro will travel to #2 Westwood on Friday at 6:30.

#11 Oliver Ames, 89 @ #6 Milton, 74 – FinalOliver Ames flexed its offensive muscles, scoring a season-high 89 points to earn the upset on the road. The Tigers scored 20 points in the opening quarter and held a 42-33 lead by halftime. Milton cut into the deficit, trailing just 62-56 after three quarters but the Tigers dropped 27 points in the fourth quarter. Jack Spillane led the way with 26 points while senior Nick Welch had 24 points. Dylan Mahoney added 15 points while both Carter Evin and Matt Muir chipped in with 10 points. Oliver Ames will travel to #3 Whitman-Hanson on Friday at 6:30.

#14 Canton, 4 vs. #19 Norwell, 1 – FinalSophomore Lauren Fitzpatrick netted a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs to a win in their first tournament game. Fellow sophomore Maggie Malloy also found the back of the net in the win. Canton advances to play #3 Shrewsbury on Saturday the the Northstar Ice Arena at 1:50.

Jenkins doubled the lead in the second period off helpers from Farragher and Olsen and then Tim Arnold netted a goal in the third period off an assist from Patrick McAfferty. Senior Brendan McKenna made 20 saves in net for the shutout.

Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 5 – FinalOliver Ames’ Cullen Gallagher registered three points, with two goals and an assist to pace the hosting Tigers. Juniors Eric LeBlanc and Rory Madden each had a goal while senior Jared Costello had two assists. OA Goalie Zach Walsh made nine saves to record his first shutout of the season.

Wrestling
St. John’s Shrewsbury Quad (Canton) – Canton went 0-2 at the meet, falling to both Lynnfield-North Reading and St. John’s Shrewsbury.

Foxboro @ Duxbury Quad – Foxboro went 2-0-1 on the day. The Warriors rolled past Quincy 70-6 then beat No. 8 ranked Marshfield 42-33. Foxboro finished the day with a 39-39 tie with No. 4 ranked Methuen.

Franklin @ Merrimack Duals, – Franklin finished second out of 11 teams at the team duals, going 4-1 overall. Franklin beat Biddeford (Maine) 48-19, Alvirne (N.H.) 46-22, St. Johnsbury (Vt.) 49-6, and Lawrence (Mass.) 40-20. The Panthers lost to Marshwood (Maine) 45-18 in the final match.

Whitman-Hanson Quad (King Philip, Sharon) – Sharon went 3-0 at the Whitman-Hanson Quad. The Eagles beat KP to start the day, 51-21, and then followed it with wins against North Quincy (60-24) and Whitman-Hanson (54-18).

Cape Cod Invitational (Mansfield, Taunton) – Mansfield claimed the team title at the Cape Cod Invitational with 136.5 points. Freshmen Antonios Sevastos (106) and Vinnie Holmes (170) both finished first at their weight classes, while Will Stratton (126) and Ford DelVecchio (22) both took second place finishes. Taunton had three wrestlers place: Alex Rodriguez (138) placed second, Nuno Camara placed (182) was third and Woudanly Danger (220) placed fourth.

Gymnastics
Canton, 120.8 @ Franklin, 123.4 – FinalFranklin junior Liz Traphagen won the all around with a 34.7 – scoring a 8.3 on vault, 8.7 on bars and beam and a 9.0 on floor – to lead the Panthers to their first win since reestablishing the program. Sophomore Sadie Rondeau was second in all around with a 33.2 – scoring an 8.1 on vault, 7.4 on bars, 8.0 on beam and 8.2 on floor.

Canton, 4 vs. Sandwich, 2 – FinalSenior Rebecca Eckler scored two goals while sophomore Maggie Malloy added two assists.

Ryan DeCosta (113), Cobey Williamson (120) and Sean Cosgrove (160) also picked up wins for Oliver Ames.

Qualeem Charles had 10 points and seven rebounds and Bryant Ciccio had 12 points and five rebounds. Senior Jake Dunkley led the Bombardiers with 19 points and six rebounds.

Franklin, 64 vs. Malden Catholic, 70 – Final

Milford, 69 vs. Tantasqua, 46 – FinalAnthony Arcudi dropped a career-high 22 points to pace the Scarlet Hawks to a win. Zack Tamagni added 13 points while Shane Cosquete finished with nine points. Junior Kayden Kelley scored 10 points and hauled in a career-high 21 rebounds. Milford will face Waltham in the final of the Scarlet Hawks Classic on Thursday at 7 p.m.

King Philip, 59 @ Bridgewater-Raynham, 58 – FinalKing Philip overcame a seven point deficit in the first half to take a five point lead by half. The Trojans came back to seize a three point advantage after three quarters. KP was able to build a four point lead late and hold on. Sophomore Kyle Layman had 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks to lead the Warriors while Justin Vine added 17 points and Will Weir had 12 points.

North Attleboro, 57 vs. Reading, 42 – FinalThe Rocketeers jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Up 33-21, Big Red used another dominate quarter, outscoring the Rockets 17-4 in the third. Junior Chad Peterson led the way with a career-high 15 points while Jonny Friberg added 14 points and Kyle McCarthy finished with 13 points.

Oliver Ames, 58 vs. East Boston, 36 – FinalOliver Ames deployed a zone defense and then pounced with a press in the second quarter to pull away from East Boston. The Tigers outscored East Boston 21-4 in the second quarter and 13-5 in the third quarter. “We used the press and we played zone,” OA head coach Don Byron said. “We got pretty active – tops on that list was probably Welch, he gets his hands on a lot of stuff in the zone. We ran out on that pretty well and we were able to compound things a little bit by jumping into the press once we scored.” Jack Spillane led OA with 12 points and 11 rebounds, Dylan Mahoney had 12 points and five rebounds and Matt Muir finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Sharon, 52 vs. Arlington Catholic, 33 – FinalSenior Ricardo Ripley scored all of his team-high 14 points in the second half to lead Sharon to the win on the road at Wilmington. The Eagles only allowed 13 points in the second half and won the fourth quarter 17-6. Jimmy Fitzhenry also had 14 points in the win while Jayvon Monteiro scored 11 points.

Taunton, 73 vs. Hope (RI), 49 – FinalFreshman Naz Kenian scored a career-high 16 points as Taunton rolled past Hope. Junior Malik Charles chipped in with 14 points for the Tigers.

Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 60 vs. Cranston West 35 – FinalSarah Deyo led the way for the Bombardiers with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Julia Strachan, Sam Pierce, and Jordyn Lako each added 10 points for Attleboro.

Mansfield, 52 vs. Marshfield, 47 – FinalJen Peel had 18 points and five assists to pace the Hornets. Meg Hill added 12 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocks and Ann Maher had 10 points for Mansfield. The Hornets will play Duxbury in the final of the Holiday Tournament on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.

Milford, 60 @ Hudson, 31 – FinalKate Irwin was the top scorer for the Hawks with 23 points and Jess Tomaso chipped in with eight points.

Oliver Ames, 48 vs. Needham, 42 – FinalOliver Ames rallied from a halftime deficit to tie the game but the Rockets reestablished a lead (31-26) at the end of the third. The Tigers seized the lead early in the fourth quarter and held on. Kayla Raymond led the Tigers with 18 points while Niyera Mitchell had nine points and a career-high 19 rebounds. The Tigers will host Walpole in the final of the Sure Rivard Tournament.

Wrestling
Lowell Holiday Tournament (Canton, Foxboro, Franklin, Stoughton) – After the first day, Foxboro is in eighth place with 79 points and Franklin is in 11th with 69.5 points. Wrestlers that made the quarterfinals include Foxboro’s Adam Lanctot (106), Canton’s Justin Dickie (113), Franklin’s TJ Remillard and Foxboro’s Phil Dure (126) and Foxboro’s Matt Kelley (132).

Marshfield Tournament (Mansfield, North Attleboro, Oliver Ames, Sharon) – North Attleboro is in third place with 111.5 points with 10 wrestlers moving onto day two. Mansfield is just outside the top 10 with 66.5 points (13th place) with six wrestlers moving on. Wrestlers that advanced to the semifinals include North Attleboro’s Brady Folan and Mansfield’s Antonios Sevastos (106), Sharon’s Yosef Ellis-Rech (126), Oliver Ames’ Liston Funai (132), Mansfield’s George Glaropoulos and North Attleboro’s Nick Gould (152), Mansfield’s Vinnie Holmes (170) and North Attleboro’s Brad White (220).

Franklin, 6 vs. Leominster/St. Bernards, 3 – FinalSophomore Reagan Paterson netted a hat trick to pace the Panthers in their first game of the season. Junior Jackie Connelly added two goals and an assist while Maddie Hinkley scored once.

Wedneday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 09/28/16

Today’s games are selected.

Boys Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – Ahijah Joseph gave Attleboro the lead with an 18th minute goal, an advantage the Bombardiers took into the halftime break. Franklin senior Hatim Brahimi found the equalizer in the 69th minute to level the scoring.

Canton, 3 @ Foxboro, 2 – Final – Canton sophomore Paolo Ruggeri scored in the final minutes of the came to complete the Bulldogs’ comeback. Foxboro’s Anthony Barreira and Jeff Melo scored goals in the first half as the Warriors took a 2-0 lead into halftime. But Canton senior Ben Waterhouse cut into the lead with a goal in the 52nd minute and sophomore Paul Corcoran tied the game in the 55th minute. Ruggeri was able to convert with under two minutes to play for the game winner.

King Philip, 2 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final Sophomore Tony Bozza netted his first career goal in the opening minutes of the contest off an assist from Thomas Lugten and Lugten doubled the lead before the halfway mark of the first half to lead King Philip. Bozza used a one time finish off a pass from Lugten to put KP up 1-0 in the 2nd minute. Lugten then took a flick from Colby Koch and tucked his chance into the net from inside the area. KP head coach Nick Gale said his back four of Jack Bush, Cam Mullins, Ryan Coulter and Larsen Keys had a strong defensive game in front of goalie Eli O’Neill, who had a strong game against Mansfield’s set pieces.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Milford, 2 – Final Pedro Sampaio netted a pair of second half goals to lead the Scarlet Hawks to their second straight win. Sampaio converted a penalty kick to put Milford up 1-0 and then carried possession across the edge of the area before firing in his second of the game.

Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final Joe Cerqueira and Nathaniel Cardoza each scored in the first half for Oliver Ames. James Gillespie assisted on Cerqueira’s goal and Chris Lawrence set up Cardoza’s goal.

Stoughton, 2 @ Sharon, 4 – Final – Sharon cashed in on a pair of corner kicks to build a 2-0 lead at halftime and converted on a free kick for a 3-0 advantage early in the second half. Andrew Reyes Jones opened the scoring, converting a corner from Michael Baur. Jeffrey Gao doubled the lead, finishing off another corner from Baur. Ben Stamm headed home a free kick from Ian Camilli to make it 3-0. Stoughton responded with a pair of goals with sophomore Fabio Ponce De Leon finishing a lofted pass from Tyler Melo coming first and Jordan Asnes finishing a cross from Goddy Fombe to make it 3-2. Camilli iced the game with his second point of the game with a strike from just outside the area to cap the scoring.

Girls Soccer
Franklin, 3 @ Attleboro, 0 – FinalMiranda Smith scored twice and assisted on the third goal for the Panthers. Jess Kroushl added a goal and an assist and Emily Mastaj had an assist for Franklin.

Foxboro, 0 @ Canton, 2 – Final

Mansfield, 5 @ King Philip, 1 – Final – Emma Oldow scored once and had two assists, Allee Bezeau netted a pair of goals and Emma Goulet and Steph Kemp each scored once and had an assist in Mansfield’s win. Avery Snead scored for King Philip.

Milford, 1 @ North Attleboro, 1 – FinalMilford converted a corner kick to pick up a tie on the road at North Attleboro. Nicole Dahlgren scored off of Maddie Boyle’s corner for the Scarlet Hawks. Milford head coach Jay Mastaj praised the two-way play of Ashleigh Starks and Maggie Boyle.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Taunton, 1 – FinalAnna Tempestoso, Kiana Lozzi and Abby Reardon were the goal scorers for OA and Zoe Chazon added two assists for the Tigers. Samantha Tichelaar scored for Taunton.

Sharon, 11 @ Stoughton, 1 – FinalSharon’s Alex Rabb registered her third hat trick of the season to lead the Eagles while Ally Filipkowski, Jessie Tarnoff and Amanda Klayman each scored two goals apiece. Ally Steinberg and Maxine Gordon each scored once for Sharon.

Volleyball
Mansfield, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – FinalMansfield picked up a 25-16, 20-25, 28-26, 25-19 win on the road at Oliver Ames. Olivia Broyles had nine blocks and four kills for the Hornets while Chloe Peters added 20 service points and Jess Haradon and Jacey Anderson combined for 20 digs. Oliver Ames’ Bridget McCarthy had 27 assists and five aces and Maya Fetcho added 11 kills.

Sharon, 181 @ Stoughton, 192 – FinalMax Avratin was the match medalist, shooting a low-round of 44 to lead Sharon. Cam Doherty and Zach Gay led Stoughton, both shooting a round of 47.

Taunton, 191 @ Milford, 154 – Final Three Milford golfers broke 40 on the day to pace the Scarlet Hawks to the win. Ryan Tomaso carded a low round of 35 while Anthony Arcudi shot 38 and Tylor Renaud carded a round of 39.

Canton, 153 @ North Attleboro, 149 – Final – Four different golfers shot under 40 for the Rocketeers to edge Canton in a key Davenport division showdown. Robbie Congdon shot a 36, David Colasanti shot a 37 and Dylan Kane and Tyler Sinacola both shot 38 in the win. Canton’s Matt Minichiello was the match medalist, carding a low round of 35.
