History was made last season when Oliver Ames followed up a dominant showing at Hocks with the program’s first-ever Division 1 state championship. 

While there will be a new leader of the pack after two-time Hocks champ and MVP Katie Sobieraj graduated, the Tigers are still looking like the team to beat.

OA had six runners in the top 10 and a total of nine in the top 16, six of which are set to return this year: seniors Braelyn Graham, Hannah Dupill, and Madeleine Stewart, juniors Iole Apostoli and Ashley Powers, and sophomore Devin Thomas. 

But as the Tigers try to set the pace at the top, they have two potential challengers in an up-and-coming Canton squad and division newcomer North Attleboro, who comes over from the Kelley-Rex after taking first in that division last year. 

The Bulldogs are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history after a huge boost from a talented group of newcomers. Sophomore Lauren Raffetto highlights Canton’s strong group of returners, which includes its top 12 athletes from last year. Raffetto is coming off an undefeated dual meet season as a rookie and took fourth overall at Hocks. Captains Klara Redquest, Nishka Baduamanda, and Madeleine Driscoll will provide key leadership for the team while sophomores Elena Silva, Natalie Hales, and Libby Silvasy are key runners looking to take the next step this season. Senior Evey Dwoske and cross country newcomers Lexi Piazza and Athena To give Canton the depth it needs to compete at the top.

“Last year we kind of flew under the radar, but now everyone knows that we can compete,” said Canton head coach Brian Gotsell. “With the spotlight on us, I’m excited to see how we respond.”

Another runner who went undefeated throughout the dual meet is North Attleboro senior Katie Galgoczy. The Rocketeers swept the regular season as a team, too, for their first division title since 2017. Now with the new enrollment alignment will look to challenge five-time reigning division champs OA. Sophomore Molly Galgoczy also had a strong fall, taking 11th at Hocks, and also impressed in the distance events in the winter and spring, and that duo will give North a chance to make a push for the title.

Mansfield senior captain Sierra Wojick has provided some great leadership for a team that has a strong mix of returners and newcomers. After graduating its top two runners from last year, the Hornets will lean on its returners which include Wojick and fellow senior Emily MacDonald along with a talented group of juniors Alex Petrova, Cally Amara, Ava Hickey, and Caroline Cardosa. An influx of new talent could turn Mansfield into a dark horse in the Davenport division. Senior Frankie Spagna will join the squad after some successful indoor and outdoor track seasons, juniors Alex Leman and Anabel Sanchez provide good depth, and sophomores Sarah Farley and Morgan Ferrari along with freshman Marlene Moore will look to make an immediate impact with the squad.

“I am looking forward to seeing what they can do this season,” said Mansfield head coach Carolina DiBiase. “The girls look strong and they are ready to run and improve each week. As a team we hope to work together and pack run, in hopes of bringing along our team members. While we have lost a few key runners from last year, we hope to build on our newcomers. With hard work and injury prevention, we can be competitive.”

Over in Foxboro, the Warriors have the largest roster the program has seen in a number of years. Adriana Alberts, Brenna Hoyt, Elizabeth Brancato, and Shiza Hussain highlight an experienced group of returning runners for head coach Matt Smith. Foxboro’s also picked up some new multi-sport additions to bolster the team’s depth this year including Lauren
Bober, Faith Bober, Chloe McGarry, Liliana Brancato, and Emma Dorich.

The Warriors, who call Payon Field’s 2.5-mile course home, will cover a lot of miles beyond the meets as they will compete at the Martha’s Vineyard Invitational and the Manchester Invitational at Derryfield Park in New Hampshire. 

This year our team is coming in with a strong group of returners, as well as several people coming into their first XC season who have the potential to make a big impact,” Smith said. “We’re looking to further build on the foundation we were laying with the incredibly young team we had last year.”

With North Attleboro now in the Davenport division, there will be a new champion in the Kelley-Rex. One of those potential challengers is Franklin, who boasts a talented and deep senior class. Fiona Morrison, Abby Baker, Emma Pruitt, and Carli Walbert are the captains this year and all have a ton of varsity experience on the courses in the Hockomock League. Morrison and Walbert were both Hock all stars in 2022 and will be looking to break back into the top pack of runners this year.

Junior Victoria Courtright-Lim is coming off a strong outdoor track season and could make an instant impact as a newcomer to the Panthers’ cross country team. 

“The key to Franklin’s success will be the leadership provided by the senior captains,” said longtime head coach Paul Trovato. “The team will have to run as a pack and utilize the depth of the team.”

One familiar face in the cross country and track world is Taunton senior Emersyn DePonte, who has competed for the Tigers since eighth grade. DePonte is coming off a 13th place at Hocks last fall and then had a terrific spring season, taking first at Hocks in both the 800M and 1 Mile race. Junior Maddie Dias, who also ran distance this past spring, is another returner who will look to build on her first season of cross country last year. 

The Kelley-Rex also features some of the top individual runners in the league. Attleboro senior Emilia Smith was second at Hocks last year and will be a contender to win the race this time out. 

Senior Sara Lessard will lead the pack for Sharon this year, one of 15 returners for the Eagles. Fellow seniors Sophie Foulger, Jackie Leybovich, Sameera Sarin, Ankita Varigonda, and Amaya Zibrak will let set the tone and provide key leadership for first-year head coach Sara Barbera. Sophomore Selena Wackerle has impressed early on this preseason and has been a consistent runner for the Eagles, and Sharon’s freshman class has shown some potential for the future. 

HOCKOMOCK BOYS CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW

While Oliver Ames rolled through the regular season, Sharon pulled off the upset at Hocks and took home first place. 

While the longtime rivals won’t go head-to-head during the regular season because of the enrollment realignment in the league, that will only build the anticipation for the league championship meet at the end of the regular season.

Sharon enters the season with high expectations and has every intention of defending the title they won at Hocks last year. The Eagles had eight runners in the top 22 spots and six of those athletes are back this year. Senior Alex Blumen is the top returner in the league after a third-place finish at Hocks and seniors Karthik Pisupati (fifth) and Jacob Slavsky (ninth) give Sharon a three-headed monster that will set the pace at the front of the pack. 

Sophomores Alex Pinnix and Matteo Lozano had terrific rookie seasons and will look to build upon them this fall and senior Joe Thomas (22nd at Hocks) gives Sharon great depth as they look to compete for the Kelley-Rex title in their first year in the division. Head coach Ben Stoller is also looking to get contributions from Julian Hoemke, Riley Newbold, and Levi Mostrom throughout the year.

“Our goal is to go 5-0 in the Kelley-Rex, win Hocks, and do some real damage at divisionals and all-states,” Stoller said.

Sharon’s main competition in the Kelley-Rex will be Franklin, the defending champs and a program that has won the title in five of the last seven seasons. The Panthers enter the season looking to build off of last year’s success, which included a third-place finish at Hocks. With one of the largest teams in the league (~50 athletes), leadership will be important and Franklin has four good captains to guide the way: seniors Jonathan Pink, Jack Halter, Alex Fiorvanti, and Manuel Romero. On top of some strong juniors and sophomores eager to make an impact this year, there are some newcomers in the freshmen class who have already shown some great potential.

“The four captains were integral in organizing captains practices over the summer and have helped set up this team for a potentially great season,” said Franklin head coach Nick Bailey. 

Youth will be key for King Philip this season after the Warriors have just two of their top seven runners from last season back. Senior captain Noah Lerner and junior Marcus Florindi were among KP’s top runners last year and they’ll be leading the way this season. Head coach John Berdos will be looking at the trio of sophomores Michael Joseph, Cam Murk, and Liam Keleher to take the next step this season after picking up some valuable experience as first-year runners last year. 

“We’re also excited to welcome many new rookies to the roster this season as numbers are back up and energy levels are high,” Berdos said.

The boys side will also feature a new winner after the graduation of OA’s Brendan Thomas. The Tigers also lost senior Brody Lake but five other top 21 finishers could help the squad stay at the top of the Davenport division.

Mansfield has a rich program history and this year’s squad features a number of veteran runners. Senior captains Ben Dury and Sean Benvissuto provide head coach Danny Horgan with crucial leadership and juniors Owen DiGregorio, Kiernan Hoff, and Joey Federline are all eager to build off impressive sophomore campaigns. Dury and DiGregorio are coming off top 10 finishes in the 2 Mile race at Hocks this past spring, and Federline and Hoff were both in the top 11 in the same race in the winter so Horgan is expecting key points throughout the season from those runners. 

“Half of our roster to start the season consists of first-time cross country runners, so there are a lot of unknowns going into our first few meets,” Horgan said. “However, I’ve been very encouraged by our first few practices and I expect a lot of our newcomers to be scorers for us at some point this fall.”

Canton continues to see a rise in its numbers and this year’s squad, which is the largest in recent history, has 35 harries. Head coach Brian Gotsell will lean on captains Riley Swearingen and Justin Ngan to help incorporate a lot of new faces after graduating half of the squad’s top 10 runners from last year. Sophomore Minh Hong has the potential to be a top runner for the team this year after a strong rookie season, and the Dogs will also look for contributions from Max Mateo, Andrew Kurchak, Tyler Baird, Declan Monahan, Bharat Ramanathan as well as sophomore Lucas Scully, who showed some promise throughout the 2023 season.

“We may be young, but our guys are motivated and excited to learn, grow, and embrace the true meaning of team cross country,” Gotsell said.

Foxboro brings back its top two runners from a season ago as the Warriors look to continue to improve. Juniors Timmy Chase and Eamonn Kelly both have a ton of experience between cross country and track and will lead the pack from the front this season. Head coach Matt Smith is also expecting improved performances from seniors Jack Gilmartin and Cooper Lawson as well as sophomores Henry Thies, Cam Lightbody, and John Anderson.

“This entire group has been hard at work all summer training and logging miles, and everyone is excited to get the dual meet season underway starting next week with a home meet against Canton,” Smith said.

Over in Stoughton, the Black Knights will feature a relatively inexperienced group but one looking to improve on last season. Senior James Bettencourt is one of five seniors on the team but the only one with cross country experience. Senior Will Borges has traded in his cleats from soccer and picked up cross country and could make an immediate impact for the Black Knights.

Oliver Ames, 44 @ Stoughton, 56 – Final – Stoughton swept the long jump and the 55M dash as well as taking both relays to pick up an impressive win over Oliver Ames, securing a second-place finish in the Davenport division. Matt Singletary’s leap of 20-04.00 took first (second best in the Hock) with Alex Huynh and Tito Nwosu rounding out the sweep for the Black Knights, while Zachary Feist (7.00) won the 55M dash followed by Matt-Andy Beauchamps and Tyler Noel. Singletary also won the high jump (6-02.00), Thomas Laz won the shot put with a throw of 40-10.50, and William Tinkham won both the 55M hurdles (7.99) and the 300M (38.18). Tinkham also anchored Stoughton’s 4×200 relay team along with Beauchamps, Feist, and Noel, setting a new school record in 1:34.12. Oliver Ames swept four events on the night: the 2 Mile (Brody Lake, Oscar Feodoroff, Jonah Sobieraj), the 1000M (Aidan Dupill, Ryan Sarney, Brendan Tomas), the 600M (Sarney, Dupill, Thomas), and the 1 Mile (Alexander Pierce, Ethan Mahoney, Landon Sarney).

Canton, 41 @ Foxboro, 55 – Final – Foxboro finished first in eight races, and took second in the other two as they earned a win over Canton. Daniel O’Malley earned 15 points with three first place finishes, winning the high jump (6-00.00), the 55M hurdles (8.56), and the 300M (37.39). Other first place finishes for the Warriors were Edosa Omeumu (long jump, 17-06.25), Joe Flanagan (league-best shot put throw of 47-03.50), Brooks Stone (1000M, 2:45.85), Stephen Haney (600M, 1:27.37), and Chris Proulx (1 Mile, 4:53.92). Trevor Palmer and Johnny Ahearn earned four points with a second-third finish in the 2 Mile, and Jaiden Jean and Ishmel Sillah did the same in the 55M dash for Foxboro. Canton’s Luke Darling won the 2 Mile (11:03.65) and Christian Hanlon took first in the 5MM dash (7.13). Canton won both relays with the 4×400 team (Dan Glemaud, Sam Vail, Austin DiBiasio, Mohith Arugollu) clocking in at 4:06.38, and the 4×200 team (Hanlon, Joshua Richards, Charlie Zack, Alex Kraslynkov) finishing in 1:40.33.

Mansfield, 74 @ Sharon, 25 – Final – Mansfield completed an undefeated dual meet season with a win over Sharon anchored by sweeps in the shot put and the 55M dash, first place finishes in six more events, and wins in both relays. The Davenport division champs picked up all nine points in the shot put led by Ayden Agbasi’s throw of 44-10.75 with Billy Gardner and Daniel Mintz rounding out the top three. Myles Brown earned first in the 55M dash in 6.76 followed closely in second by Nate Kablik (6.88) and third by Sirius Li (6.96). Talon Johnson had a league-best time in the 1000M, clocking in at 2:40.46 for first, Evan Thevenot took first in the long jump (19-11.50), freshman Joey Federline Jr. won the 2 Mile by breaking 11 minutes for the first time (10:58.15), Troy Penney won the 600M (1:29.04) by less than a second over Sharon’s Karthik Pisupati (1:29.77) with Kyle Dickinson’s PR time of 1:32.37 good for third, Colby Quersher took the 1 Mile in 4:54.12, and Grady Sullivan (37.26) and Matthew Breitenstein went 1-2 in the 300M, both setting new PRs. For Sharon, Naeem Prempin won the high jump (5-04.00) and Alexander Gong clocked in at 8.12 to win the 55M hurdles.

Attleboro, 52 @ Franklin, 48 – Final – Attleboro won both relays, setting a new school record in the 4×200 in the process, to rally for a win over Franklin and clinch the Kelley-Rex division title. Trailing by one going into the final relay, the Bombardiers 2×400 relay team of Peter DelPozzo, Michael Huntington, Jordan Rivera-Silva, and Adrian Rivera registered the best time in school history at 1:33.08 to win the relay and the dual meet. Attleboro’s 4×400 relay team of Austin Bowie, Nicolas Graber, Sean Kaswale, and Camden Martin won in 3:33.62, less than a second ahead of Franklin. Sean O’Hara-Ouellette won the high jump (6-00.00), Adrian Rivera and Jordan Rivera-Silva went 1-2 in the long jump, DelPozzo clocked in first in the 55M hurdles (8.47), and Rivera-Silva took first in the 300M. Luke Hagopian (1000M), Kamron marsh (shot put), and Graber (600M) each had key second place finishes to secure key points. Franklin picked up wins from Jacob Bowser (shot put), Tyler Apicella (2 Mile), Luke Sidwell (55M dash), Jack Halter (1000M), Jake Vaccarezza (600M), and swept the 1 Mile (Jonathan Pink, Will Boozang, Bradford Morin).

King Philip, 42 @ Taunton, 58 – Final – Taunton won both relays, picked up nine points in each the 55M dash and the 300M, and had three more first place finishes in a win over KP. Dmitrius Shearrion anchored both sweeps for the Tigers and was apart of the winning 4×200 relay. Shearrion won the 55M dash in 6.75 followed by Jonathan Trinh and Xavier Spencer, while his win in the 300M (35.30) anchored the sweep along with Jared Spencer and Chris Wallace. Sam Denis added a win in the 2 Mile (10:34.45), Andrew Cali clocked in first in the 1000M (2:50.25), and Cam Door won the 600M in 1:33.23. Degen Granese won a pair of events for the Warriors, taking first in both the long jump (19-04.75) and the shot put (41-09.00), Keagan Fletcher won the high jump at 6-00.00, Kevin Smith’s time of 8.45 won the 55M hurdles, and Nathan Sylven crossed the finish line at 4:43.44 to win the 1 Mile race.

North Attleboro, 66.5 @ Milford, 33.5 – Final – North Attleboro’s Nathan Shultz continued his dominance this season, taking three wins — all three with league-best finishes — to lead the Rocketeers to a win over Milford. Shultz was the fastest in the 55M dash, recording a league-best time of 6.69 and then posted a league-best jump of 6-06.00 to win the high jump and a Hock-best leap of 22-05.75 to win the long jump. Connor Peterson anchored a sweep in the 2 Mile with a time of 11:01.51 followed by William Atwood and Brendan Simpson. North also got 1-2 finishes in the long jump (Kyle Conroy), the 55M dash (Abraham Guir), the 1000M (Brady King, Yousef Abdalla), and the 300M (Sam Bush, Guir). Milford’s Christopher Benson won the shot put with a throw of 35-04.00 and Ben Parson took first in the 600M (1:29.99).

Girls Indoor Track
Oliver Ames, 57 @ Stoughton, 43 – Final – Oliver Ames completed its second straight undefeated dual meet season to claim another Davenport division title, their seventh overall. The Tigers swept a pair of events with Katie Sobieraj anchoring both of them. Sobieraj had a Hock-best time of 3:00.38 in the 300M and was followed by teammates Molly Capece and Erin Reilly while also winning the 2 Mile in 12:39.50 with Iole Apostoli and Brynn Cushing rounding out the top three. Jenna Gilman added a win in the 600M (1:41.67), Catie Wilson took another win in the shot put (28-03.00), and Taegan Hodges and Hailey Goldman went 1-2 in the 1 Mile race. Stoughton’s Gabriele Julien won both the high jump (4-10.00) and the long jump (15-08.50), Shayla Ford was also a double-winner by taking the 55M dash (7.56) and the 300M (42.78), and Belleya Franck added a first place finish in the 55M hurdles (9.73).

Canton, 77 @ Foxboro, 23 – Final – Canton collected key points by sweeping both the shot put and the 1000M in a win over Foxboro to conclude the dual meet season. Emma Massih anchored the sweep in the shot put along with Allie Wong and Jess Brathwaite while Tahlia Weaver led the charge in the 1000M with Daphne Golden and Sarah Dempster rounding out the top three. Katie Oliver was a double-winner for the Bulldogs, taking first in both the 55M hurdles and the long jump, Maggie McCready had a 10-second personal best time while taking first in the 1 Mile, and Lexi Piazza won the 600M race, setting a new PR by seven seconds.

Mansfield, 74 @ Sharon, 24 – Final – Mansfield took first in 10 events plus one relay to claim a big win over Sharon. The Hornets swept the shot put (Caitlin Garrahy, Juliana Machado, Joselyn Saba), the 55M dash (Abigail Scott, Chloe Guthrie, Meghan Driscoll), and the 300M (Olivia Barry, Brooke Penney, Alexandra Leman) for a total of 27 points. Guthrie also won the long jump (15-10.00), Elyssa Buchanan won two events, taking first in the 55M hurdles (9.47) and the high jump (4-08.00), Anna Moore won the 2 Mile in 12:10.00, Norah Puleo took first in the 1000M (3:23.01), Avery Hawthorne added five points by winning the 600M (1:50.11), and Alexandra Petrova clocked in at 6:09.78 to win the 1 Mile. Olivia Nau had six points for the Eagles, taking second in both the long jump and the 55M hurdles.

Attleboro, 9 @ Franklin, 90 – Final – Franklin swept eight events in a dominant showing, finishing off a 5-0 season to clinch the Kelley-Rex division crown for the first time since 2018. The Panthers swept the high jump (Abigail Griffith, Sarah Dumas, Vera Hansen), the long jump (Dumas, Barra Pfluke, Cailyn Bruno), the shot put (Lily DeForge, Elizabeth Hopkins, Darby Nicholson), the 55M hurdles (Ella Chandaria, Hansen, Bruno), the 55M dash (Dumas, Chandaria, Sophia Cuneo), the 1000M (Gwenyth Holland, Allison Powderly, Katie Barrow), the 600M (Bruno, Anna Cliff, Ella McLaughlin), and the 300M (Cuneo, Olivia Costa, Cassidy Carmignani). Mackenzie Mann added a win in the 2 Mile, clocking in at 13:43.88. Attleboro’a Emilia Smith won the 1 Mile in 5:39.10.

King Philip, 54 @ Taunton, 45 – Final – King Philip won the 4×200 relay by less than two seconds to secure a win over Taunton in a close battle. The Tigers won the 4×800 relay in 4:25.63 (the team of Phylicia Dias, Braelyn Nichols, Sydney Martin, Caelyn O’Leary) to have a shot at the win but KP’s 4×200 relay team of Sarah Glaser, Madeline Hill, Ali Gill, and Alex D’Amadio finished in 1:52.79 to secure the win. D’Amadio collected six points from a first place finish in the 300M (43.25) and a third place in the 600M (1:51.23), Gill and Glaser finished 1-2 in the 55M dash, and Hill added 10 more points by winning both the long jump (15-05.00) and the 55M hurdles (9.74). Katherine O’Neil added a win in the shot put (32-00.50) and Cheyanne Kelley won the 1000M in 3:34.06. Taunton’s Colby Dunham won the 2 Mile in 13:09.23, Emersyn DePonte and Sarah Mendonca went 1-2 in the 1 Mile, and Dias and Martin finished first and second in the 600M.

North Attleboro, 50 @ Milford, 50 – Final – Milford and North Attleboro entered the relays tied, and after splitting the relays, finished that way in a 50-50 tie. There was no separation between the Hawks and the Rocketeers, who had 45 points apiece before the relays. Milford won six of the 10 events but North had key depth by getting points from second and third place finishes. Kiyanna Simas won both the long jump (17-04.00) and the 55M dash (7.43), both were league best finishes on the night. The Hawks also got wins from Kay Wheelock (55M hurdles, 10.16), Carly Haley (1000M, 3:30.71), Sydney Kalil (1 Mile, 5:40.35), and swept the 300M (Gabby Peniche, Kaylee Whitney, Wheelock). North picked up wins from Sydney O’Connor in the high jump (4-08.00) with Caroline Folan and Megan Ladd rounding out a sweep, Sienna Newth in the shot put (32-06.50), Ellie Fournier in the 2 Mile (13:34.87), and Faith Wilder in the 600M (2:06.43).

Boys Basketball
Stoughton, 60 @ Attleboro, 69 – Final – Attleboro got off to a strong start with a 21-point first quarter, build a double-digit lead at halftime, took a 21-point lead into the final quarter, and then held on after a late surge from Stoughton to secure a 69-60 win. Junior Neo Franco poured in a career-high 29 points, hitting one of Attleboro’s four first quarter three-pointers. Franco had 15 points by halftime while Michael Beverly scored all of his career-high 19 points in the first three quarters. Jaiden Outland and Hayden Crowley also had first quarter threes for Attleboro, which led 38-24 at halftime and 55-34 after three quarters. The Bombardiers limited the visitors to just five points in the second and 10 in the third to grow their big lead. Jayden Costa-Haywood dropped a career-high 25 points for the Black Knights, hitting five three-pointers, and sophomore Matt Greenspoon drained four threes and finished with 16 points.

Canton, 47 @ Taunton, 59 – Final – Taunton took the lead in the second quarter and built on it with a big third, improving to 3-0 on the season with a win over visiting Canton. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead (17-12) with a strong first but the Tigers clawed back and carried a 31-25 lead into halftime. Taunton carried that momentum into the second half, exploding for 21 points in the third quarter to push the lead to 52-37 going into the final eight minutes. Chris Perault scored six points in the second and added a three in the third, finishing with a game-high 19 points for Taunton. Tyson Carter added a three in both of the middle quarters, freshman Jakari Innocent scored 12 of his 14 points between the second and third, and Troy Santos had seven of his nine in the same stretch for the Tigers. Canton hit three threes in the opening quarter but only had two more the rest of the way. Jamaal McConnell led Canton with 13 points while Zaza Francoeur chipped in with 10 points.

Oliver Ames, 50 @ King Philip, 63 – Final – King Philip caught fire in the third quarter, sinking seven three-pointers inside eight minutes to pull away from Oliver Ames for a 63-50 win. The Warriors scored 10 points in the first and 13 in the second, but Oliver Ames held a two-point lead at 25-23 at the break, thanks in part to Nick Asiaf scoring all nine of his points in the second. In the third, senior Will Laplante hit four threes and had 13 of his team-high 21 points in the third. Tommy McLeish added a pair of triples and Tommy Kilroy hit another as the Warriors exploded for 31 points in the third, flipping a two-point halftime deficit to a 54-37 advantage going into the fourth. Kilroy added another three in the fourth and Tommy Martorano finished with 14 points for KP. OA sophomore Cole Craffey scored a career-high 24 points to pace the Tigers.

Mansfield, 50 @ North Attleboro, 33 – Final – Mansfield used a 9-0 run in the second quarter to build a double-digit lead and did enough to keep North Attleboro at arm’s length the rest of the way, grinding out a tough win. The Hornets’ defense limited the Rocketeers to single digits offensively in each of the first two quarters to stake a 27-13 lead by halftime. Caden Colby scored eight of his team-high 11 points in the second quarter, hitting a pair of threes to help the Hornets establish their lead. JT Veiking had eight of his 10 points and Eddie McCoy scored half of his 10 points in the second half to keep Mansfield ahead. Sophomore Chase Frisoli scored a team-high 11 points for the Rocketeers.

Sharon, 71 @ Milford, 54 – Final – Sharon set the tone defensively early and had a strong overall showing, taking home a 71-54 win from Milford. The Eagles limited the hosts to just one field goal in the first eight minutes and the offense fed off that energy as Ryan Brown (11 points), Jacob McLoughlin (21 points), and Nate Katznelson (20 points) combined to give the Eagles and 18-2 lead. Anthony Piron and Jaden Segal added buckets in the second as Sharon established a 39-17 lead at halftime. McLoughlin added eight more in the third and both Zach Wise and Dante James contributed baskets to help the Eagles stay in front. Luca Testa scored all of his team-high 11 points in the second half while Jack Buckley and CJ Farrell each chipped in with 10 points for Milford.

Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 59 @ Stoughton, 29 – Final – Attleboro locked in defensively, allowing Stoughton just 11 points in the opening half, and then pulled away with a dominant third quarter to earn its third straight win. The Bombardiers led 13-4 after one and 26-11 at the break, but scored 21 points in the third to break the game wide open. Vanessa Ellis continued her strong start to the season with a game-high 21, including eight in the third quarter alone. Lily Routhier added 16, half of those coming in the third. Attleboro also got eight points from Avery James and seven from Kayla Goldrick. Stoughton was led again by freshman Kirsten McKay, who finished with 12 points. She had eight of those in the second half. Katrina Varnum added four points and nine rebounds, while Caleigh Clark, Raina Tat, and Avery Hobbs each scored three points for the Black Knights.

Taunton, 56 @ Canton, 52 – Final – Taunton turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, holding Canton to just seven points over the final eight minutes, and rallied from seven points down to pick up its third win in a row to start the season. The game was tied at 24-24 at the break, but Canton stepped up on offense to win the third 21-14, led by Samya DaSilva with seven points and Erin Beatty with six. Taunton responded in the fourth, staying unbeaten under new coach Gretchen Rodrigues and in a first-place tie atop the Kelley-Rex. Aaliyah Yera scored six points in the fourth, while Cali Melo added four and Jillian Doherty added four free throws. Freshman Taryn Campbell led the way for the Tigers with 13 points, including eight of Taunton’s 14 in the third. Doherty and Melo each finished with 11 and Yera had nine, all of them from beyond the arc. DaSilva was Canton’s top scorer with 14, while Beatty chipped in with eight and Emily McCabe had seven for the Bulldogs, who knocked down nine threes as a team.

Franklin, 50 @ Foxboro, 55 – Final – Camryn Collins scored 20 points for the second straight game and Foxboro rallied from 11 points down in the second half to end Franklin’s 44-game league win streak. The first quarter was tight, as both teams came out firing. Collins had 10 of Foxboro’s 16 and Katie Peterson had 11 of Franklin’s 15. The Panthers locked down in the second, holding Foxboro to just two points to go into the locker room leading 27-18. Foxboro rallied early in the third, cutting the lead to just two, but then Franklin put together a run to extend the lead out to as many as 11. Sasha Tracey knocked down a pair of threes for the Panthers and had all six of her points in the quarter. Down nine heading to the final eight minutes, the Warriors found another gear on both ends of the floor and pulled out a 25-11 fourth quarter to secure the victory. Kailey Sullivan caught fire and scored 10 of her 12 points in the fourth, while Ava Hill added three of her seven and Collins scored seven points in the frame, including a clutch pull-up jumper to put Foxboro in front. Peterson would finish with 19 for the Panthers, 15 of them in the first half, and Lizzie Newman scored seven points.

King Philip, 52 @ Oliver Ames, 48 – Final – Emily Sawyer scored a career-high 28 points and the Warriors held on down the stretch to pick up an important, early-season road win. Sawyer was dominant in the first half, scoring six in the first quarter and 10 more in the second. Jackie Bonner added a pair of threes to help KP jump out to a 26-18 lead heading into the locker rooms. OA rallied in the second half, winning the third quarter 13-10 to cut the deficit to just five (36-31). The Tigers took the lead in the fourth, but KP was able to make the plays it needed down the stretch to secure the win. Jordan Bennett scored five of her seven points in the fourth and Sawyer added six more to help the Warriors hang on late. Sarah Hilliard made her season debut for OA and scored 11 and grabbed seven boards in the loss. Avery Gamble added nine points, including seven in the fourth, and Maddie Homer (12 rebounds, including nine offensive) and Kamryn Derba each chipped in with six.

North Attleboro, 41 @ Mansfield, 72 – Final – Mansfield tied a program record with 72 points, remarkably scoring 18 in each of the four quarters, and clamped down on defense in the second half to secure its first win of the season. Abby Wager tied a season-high with 22 points, including 16 in the first half, to lead the Hornets. Kara Santos scored 17, eight of them in third, and Olivia Salisbury scored seven. Mansfield led 36-24 at halftime, but the Hornets pulled away after the break, holding North to 17 points in the second half, and started to dominate on the glass. North was led by freshman Ella McLaughlin, who hit three from beyond the arc and finished with 12 points. Ava McKeon chipped in with nine and Sam Sweeney scored eight, including a pair from outside.

Milford, 45 @ Sharon, 48 – Final – Sharon rallied from eight points down in the fourth quarter and Olivia Landstein (five points and four steals) buried a late three to secure the Eagles their first victory under first-year coach Matt DellaBarba. Jasmine Davis continued to dominate in the paint, scoring a season-high 25 points and pulling down 19 rebounds. Rachael Hager had a solid all-around game for the Eagles with eight points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Sharon @ Canton, 4:30 – Sharon picked up it first the league win of the season on Tuesday. For Canton, Josh Richards took first place in the shot put and Jimmy Podgurski came in third. Luke Darling won the 600 and Dan Kraslynkov took first place in the 300 with Christian Hanlon finishing third.

Sharon, 37 @ Canton, 63 – Final – Canton got three PRs and swept the shot put, as the Bulldogs pulled out a win against Sharon. Emma Massih took first with a new personal best of 30’75”, Jess Brathwaite took second with a PR of 25’7.5”, and Taylor Kernen also set a new personal mark with a throw of 23’3” to take third. Canton also won both the 4×200 (Diana Tambi, Katie Oliver, Jayda Proffit, and Syriah McCruse) and the 4×400 (Tahlia Weaver, Lexi Piazza, Lianna Camille, and Nora Giannacopolous) relays.
