Foxboro, 2 vs. Northbridge, 1 – FinalJack Watts and Ben Ricketts each scored once as the Warriors opened their season with a win over Northbridge. Matt Grace had the helper on the first goal while Brady Callahan and Dylan Pothier set up Tickets for the second goal. Josh Marcoux earned the win in net for Foxboro.

Taunton, 4 @ Stoughton, 4 – FinalTaunton’s Conner Goranson scored a pair of third period goals, his second with less than a minute to help the visiting Tigers take a point one the road at Asiaf. Nathan Fernandes and Michael Lucier each had a goal and an assist while Colton Scheralis and Loran Corcoran both chipped in with a pair of assists. Charlie Caputo and Colby Strunk both scored a pair of goals for the Black Knights.

Marlboro Quad (Canton), 11:00

Foxboro Super Quad (Foxboro, Sharon) – Sharon went a perfect 3-0 on the day, picking up wins over Plymouth North (60-38), Boston Latin (53-30), and Plymouth South (44-36). Ashmith Yeruva won all three of his matches at 106, picking up three pinfall wins including one in 40 seconds against Boston Latin. Adam Landstein (120, three pins each less than a minute in), Aaron Cashton (152, two pins), and Cormac Horlbogen (182, three pins) all went 3-0 as well for the Eagles.

Braintree Quad (Mansfield), 10:00

Milford Tournament (King Philip, Milford) – Milford took first place with eight individual champions while King Philip finished third after sending four grapplers to the finals. The Hawks soared to a first place finish with 269.5 points, Ashland took second with 177, and KP finished third at 139.5. Aidan Baum (106), Michael Boulanger (113), Robert Lyons (120), Joseph Testa (132), Paul Hough (152), Dan Alves (160), Cameron Phillips (195)m and Hampton Kaye-kuter (220) all won for the Hawks while William Conniff (170) was the lone champion for the Warriors.

Sandwich Early Bird Invitational (Taunton) – Taunton continued its strong start to the season by cruising to a first place finish at the Sandwich Early Bird, recording 243 points with six individual winners and two more finalists. Brandon Mendes took first in the 120 bracket, winning all four matches by pinfall, taking out the top three seeds along the way. After a bye in the first round, Xavier Sandoval had back-to-back pins before winning the 132 final with a 6-0 decision. Ben Mandeville had four pinfall wins to claim the 145 bracket, top-seed Christian Balmain took two matches by pinfall then two more by decision to win at 160, Ethan Harris won two matches to secure the 182 title, and Peter Ye beat all three of his opponents by pin for the 195 title. Michael Leskoski (106) and Anthony Vieira (126) each took second for the Tigers.

Franklin, 4 @ Canton, 1 – FinalFranklin scored four unanswered goals in the third period to grab a non-league win over Canton. The Bulldogs struck first in the opening period on a goal from senior Andrew Valkanas, assisted by Brendan Tourgee. After a scoreless second period, the Panthers scored three times in a span just over three minutes. Senior Domenic Lampasona knotted the game at 1-1 (from Anthony Lampasona and Ben Paterson) and just two over minutes later, Paterson (from Ben Jarosza and Adam Quinn) converted a power play chance to take the lead. Less than a minute after taking the lead, Dylan Marchand extended the edge to two goals on a goal assisted by Logan Marchand and Domenic Lampasona. Jarosz tacked on an empty netter with just under a minute to go. Franklin sophomore Cole Pouliot-Porter had a stellar showing in net for the Panthers.

Mansfield, 0 vs. Malden Catholic, 6 – Final

North Attleboro, 2 vs. Norton, 1 – Final

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Stoughton, 1 – FinalSophomore Jack Corey assisted on one goal and scored the game-winner to lead Oliver Ames to a season opening win over Stoughton. Corey assisted on a goal from Jack Perron while freshman Patrick DeLoughrey and sophomore Sean Kearns each had an assist. Sophomore Brandon Burke recorded 18 saves in net to get the win. Josh Greenspoon scored the goal for Stoughton.

Taunton, 5 vs. East Bridgewater, 2 – FinalNathan Fernandes and Connor McGrath each scored a pair of goals to lead the Tigers to a win in their season opener. Fernandes and McGrath each added an assist in the win while Cam Tomasczycki made 26 saves in net to get the win.

Canton, 4 @ Lincoln-Sudbury, 5 – Final (OT)Canton built a 3-1 lead early in the second period but needed a goal in the final minutes to force overtime at 4-4. Jack Digirolamo and Brendan Tourgee put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the first period and a goal from Colin Blake made it 3-1 early in the second. L-S responded with two goals to make it 3-3 after two periods and then took a lead with just over five minutes left. With the goalie pulled, Leo Owens knotted it at 4-4 with 1:21 to play. L-S scored the winner in overtime with just over a minute to play.

Franklin, 2 @ Weymouth, 4 – Final

North Attleboro, 0 @ Bishop Feehan, 3 – Final

Westford Academy Quad (Foxboro), 9:00

Mt. Hope (R.I.) Quad Meet (Franklin) – Franklin split for the day, picking up a pair of wins in four matches. The Panthers earned wins over Barnstable (39-18) and Pilgrim (46-6) but dropped two tight contests to Hope (39-38) and Lowell (42-38).

Sharon Quad (Sharon, Mansfield) – Sharon went a perfect 4-0 on the day, rolling to four big wins in the first quad meet of the season. The Eagles had wins over Brookline (54-24), Mansfield (66-12), Leominster (72-4), and Lincoln-Sudbury (82-6). Ashmith Yeruva (106), Vehnil Rangaraman (113), Ben Grabie (160), Gabe Korn (170) and Ron Loebl (285) all earned their first varsity wins on the day for the Eagles.

Milford Quad (Milford) – Milford opened its season in style, picking up convincing wins in all three of its matches on the day. The Hawks knocked off Tewksbury (62-15), Marblehead/Swampscott (69-12), and Wayland (66-16). Aidan Baum, Mikey Boulanger, Robbie Lyons, Joey Testa, Danny Alves, Ryan Donovan, Jack Cruz, Cam Phillips, and Hampton Kaye-Kuter all went 3-0 on the day for Milford.

Devin Ness Memorial Tournament (Oliver Ames) – Oliver Ames took fourth overall in the Devin Ness tournament after sending five wrestlers to the finals. Elyor Ruzmatov (113) had three wins all by pinfall to win his bracket while Giovany Juste won three of his four matches by fall to win at 170. Deric Lipski, Jr. (160), Kyle Hardie (138), and Nathan Lipski (132) each finished second overall for the Tigers.

Watertown Quad (Taunton) – Taunton won all three of its matches to kick off the 2021-2022 season with a bang. The Tigers were victorious over Bristol Aggie (66-15), Watertown (78-6), and Carver (69-12). Brandon Mendes (120), Anthony Viera (126), Xavier Sandoval (132), Luke Fraga (138), Ben Mandeville (145), Christian Balmain (160), Elijah Prophete (170), Ethan Harris (182), Peter Ye (195), and Logan Frank (220) each had three wins for the Tigers.

Ashland Tournament (North Attleboro) – The Rocketeers sent five wrestlers to the finals of the Ashland Early Bird Invitational and earned second place overall. Keysun Wise (285) was the lone champion on the day for the Big Red while Austin Dean (195), Christopher Galligan (138), Jaad Ismail (170), and Tanner Ferguson (120) all earned second overall.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 01/22/20

Girls Basketball
Sharon, 40 vs. Cardinal Spellman, 45 – FinalKaitlyn Wallace led the Eagles in scoring for the second straight night, finishing with 13, but Sharon was unable to pick up a non-league win. Leah Fandel added 11 and Ally Brown scored nine in the loss. Sharon trailed by eight at halftime (32-24) and clamped down defensively in the second half to try and make a comeback. The Eagles allowed only 13 points after the break, but Spellman was tough on the defensive end of the floor as well to hold on for the win.

Boys Hockey
Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 4 – FinalKing Philip scored three goals in the opening period in a win over visiting Attleboro. Sophomore Nolan Feyler opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game with assists from Rocco Bianculli and Kyle Gray, and Bianculli doubled the last two minutes later (from Feyler and Joe Boselli) for an early 2-0 lead. Attleboro’s Liam McDonough scored (from Owen Dryjowicz) to cut the deficit in half just past the midway point of the first but KP’s Conor Cooke (from Bianculli and Gray) scored just over a minute later to regain KP’s two-goal advantage. The Bombardiers once again got within a goal when Nate Parker scored with 3:15 to go in the second but KP had an answer as Boselli (from Feyler) scored 31 seconds later to make it 4-2.

Stoughton, 8 @ Durfee, 2 – FinalDante Massaro led the way for Stoughton with a hat trick, leading to a big road win. Ryan Flannery and Cade O’Connell each scored twice and Joe McNulty wrapped up the scoring for Stoughton. Nathan Petti earned the win between the pipes.

Stoughton, 2 vs. Wayland, 6 – FinalJill Parker scored and had an assist in a loss at home to Wayland. Parker and Morgan Lessa assisted on a goal from Haley Nelson while Parker scored the Knights’ second goal with Ava Buckley and Samantha Sherman recording assists.

King Philip, 2 vs. Dedham, 4 – FinalKing Philip’s Makenzie Shandley and Morgan Cunningham scored and Avari Maxwell had an assist but the Warriors fell at home to Dedham. Cristina Coleman made 12 saves in net for KP.

Canton, 18 @ North Attleboro, 48 – FinalNorth Attleboro earned seven of its nine wins by pinfall to secure a key division win over visiting Canton. Keysun Wise needed just nine seconds to get a pin at 220 while Ethan Smith (126, 1:23), Chris Galligan (132, 0:32), Jon Lozinski (145, 5:50), Michael Edmonds (170, 2:18), Alex Warsofsky (195, 2:34), and John Kummer (285, 0:57) also recorded pins. Andrew Faris (138) earned a 4-2 decision in overtime while Joe Shepard (182) won 11-6. For Canton, Yurii Leskiv (106, 2:31) and Eddie Marinilli (152, 0:27) won by pin while Zachary Peters (113) won 6-4 in overtime and Jobi Michel (160) picked up a 14-9 win.

Sharon, 46 @ Foxboro, 15 – FinalThe Eagles moved another step closer to bringing home its first ever league meet title with a strong performance against perennial power Foxboro. Adam Landstein, Amit Levin, David Gelman, Aaron Cashton, Max Pozner, Kirit Gosetty, Tyler Freedman, Philip Varvak, Rhamsez Thevenin, and Eric Rabkin all earned wins for Sharon. The Eagles will host North Attleboro next week with a chance to clinch at least a share of the Davenport crown.

Mansfield, 31 @ Franklin, 37 – FinalFranklin heavyweight Matthew Leofanti earned a pin in the final match of the night to give the Panthers a thrilling win over the Hornets in a hard fought match. Jake Carlucci, Kenny Sauer, and Dom Sackley also had pinfall victories for the Panthers.

Taunton, 51 vs. Keefe Tech, 19 – FinalThe Tigers picked up a non-league victory over Keefe Tech on Wednesday night, earning seven wins by pinfall. Both Jackson Mandeville (138, 0:40) and Ethan Harris (145, 0:57) pinned their opponents in under a minute while James Collins (106, 1:06), Xavier Sandoval (126, 3:14), Ben Mandeville (132, 3:39), Christian Balmain (152, 3:20), and Jackson Wellman (195, 2:39) also win by pin for Taunton. Peter Ye notched a 5-0 decision at 182 for the Tigers.

Taunton, 83 vs. Bishop Stang, 57 – FinalTaunton scored 23 points in each of the first three quarters, building a double-digit advantage through eight minutes and never looked back in a win over Bishop Stang. Sophomore Trent Santos sank four three-pointers on his way to a career-high 18 points, one of five Tigers to reach double figures and one of eight on the team to score. Sophomore Faisal Mass scored in all four quarters, netting nine of his career-high 15 points in the third quarter. Josh Lopes (14 points), Nigel Choate (career-high 12 points), and Tyler Stewart (10 points) all finished in double-figures for Taunton, who improved to 2-2 overall.

King Philip, 2 @ Archbishop Williams, 0 – FinalKing Philip scored a pair of third period goals, used a stellar defensive performance, and Jesper Makudera shined in net in a win over Archies. Makudera made 27 saves for the Warriors and played outstanding according to KP head coach Paul Carlow. Carlow also noted the strong performance of the Warrior defense, highlighting senior Kyle Gray, who played a ton of minutes to anchor the blue line group. Junior Rocco Bianculli scored 45 seconds into the third on an assist from Joe Boselli to give the visitors the lead. Aidan Boulger doubled the lead at 9:58 on an assist from Gray.

Mansfield, 2 vs. Winthrop, 2 – FinalMansfield had a first period lead but needed to find the back of the net in the third to earn a come-from-behind tie against Winthrop. Seniors Chris Jenkins and Jake Lund scored for the Hornets.

North Attleboro, 5 @ Bishop Feehan, 4 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game. Matt McSweeney scored twice, including the eventual game-winner, and goalie Nick Digiacomo had a strong game in between the pipes to help the Rocketeers beat their rivals. North had a 1-0 lead five minutes into the first on a goal from the blue line by Jake McNeany, but the Shamrocks scored two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead after one period. In the second, North scored four times to jump in front. Will Yeomans tied the game with a power play goal. After Jake Gruber had his shot sneak inside the post to put North in front, Feehan tied it just 12 seconds later. McSweeney scored twice about a minute apart to put North ahead for good. Feehan got one back in the third, but the North penalty kill was impressive and the Rocketeeers held on for the win.

Franklin, 3 vs. Austin Prep, 3 – FinalFranklin scored with 10:26 left in the third period to earn a tie with Austin Prep, last year’s D1 State Finalists. The Panthers scored twice in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from Gianna Cameron (assisted by Amanda Lewandowski and Lyndsey Atkinson) and then going back in front 2-1 just over a minute later on a goal from Atkinson (assisted by Libby Carter and Tina Pisano). Sophomore Emma Hunt had the assist on the game-tying goal while Gabby Colace made 32 saves in net to help the Panthers earn the point.

King Philip, 9 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final

Wrestling
Marlboro Tournament (Canton) – The Bulldogs sent a pair of wrestlers to the final round of the Marlboro Early Bird tournament, earning one individual championship and a ninth place finish overall with 73 points. Sophomore Zack Peters earned his first tournament win, taking first in the 113 bracket. Peters won his first three matches via pinfall before taking the final match 4-2 over the second seed. Eddie Marinilli added a second place finish in the 160 bracket while Yuril Leskiv took fourth overall at 106.

Melish Duals – Sharon took first place and went 4-0 in the Mike Melish Memorial Duals, beating hosts Foxboro 40-27 in the final match of the day. The Eagles also earned wins over Northbridge (57-12), Boston Latin (61-6), and Plymouth South (31-30). Five Sharon wrestlers – Adam Landstein, David Gelman, Kirit Gosetty, Tyler Freedman, Rhamsez Thevenin – went undefeated on the day.

Franklin @ St. John’s Prep Quad – The Panthers picked up three wins in the quad meet. Franklin beat Lawrence 54-24, Salem (N.H.) 60-21, and then edged out the home team St. John’s Prep 37-34 in the final match.

Brockton Quad (Mansfield), 10:00AM

North Attleboro Quad – North Attleboro picked up a win over Chariho (RI) but suffered setbacks to both Norton and Hope (RI) in the Rocketeers’ first quad of the season. Big Red earned a 51-25 win over Chariho before falling to the Lancers and Hope by identical 42-30 wins. The Rocketeers were close to a win over powerhouse Norton before the Lancers picked up back-to-back pins for an 18-point swing and the win. North’s Mike Edmonds (170), Montrel Jackson (182), and Keysun Wise (220) each went 3-0 on the day with a pair of pins.

Marshfield Super-Quad – Oliver Ames went 4-0 in Marshfield, beating the hosts 54-24, Pembroke 54-24, Scituate 42-18, and Toll Gate (R.I.) 54-18. Jaden Ricci, Onye Nwadiugwu, Stavros Constantinou, and Nelson Malone all went 4-0 on the day and Max Anderson went 3-0 for the Tigers.

Taunton Early Bird (Taunton) – Taunton’s Christian Balmain claimed the tournament title at 152, helping the Tigers take third overall at the Sandwich Early Bird. Balmain needs just 27 seconds to get his first win via pinfall, and then advanced to the finals with a pinfall victory in the semifinals. In the final, Balmain had a takedown in each of the first two rounds to build a lead, and then secured the 7-2 decision with a late takedown in the third. Taunton’s James Collins (106) and Nico Sallaway (170) each had second play finishes while Luke Fraga (113), Brandon Mendes (120), Xavier Sandoval (126), and Ethan Harris (160) finished third overall.

Sebastian Ricketts scored in the third period to make it 3-0 before Attleboro’s Ryan Morry got the Bombardiers on the board.

Senior Duncan Pereira and junior Luca DeCillia (first career goal) scored for the Tigers while senior Owen Connor (29 saves) played well in net.

Stoughton, 0 @ Dartmouth, 3 – FinalStoughton goalie Ryan Spano was outstanding in net for the Black Knights, making 44 saves.

Stoughton, 0 @ Franklin, 7 – FinalFranklin opened the season with a big win at home over visiting Stoughton. Freshman Lyndsey Atkinson had a big debut, scoring her first goal while adding a pair of assists to lead the way. Sophomore Maggie McCaffrey, freshman Shaw Downing, and freshman Molly Hurley also scored their first career goals for the Panthers win the win. Gabby Colace had a 12-save shutout for the win.

King Philip, 0 @ Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 4 – FinalMOA’s Lily O’Brien scored twice, Julia Muttart anchored the defense, and Jess Widdop notched the shutout in goal as the Warriors skated to a league win over King Philip. Melissa Shanteler put the hosts up with a goal with 5:49 left in the opening period while O’Brien scored twice in the first five minutes of the second. Junior Emma Pereira found her younger sister Reese Pereira with a pass, and she connected with O’Brien down low to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, O’Brien had her second after burying a rebound off a shot from Ella Waryas. Alex Ledin added another second period goal to put MOA up 4-0. Ashland Early Bird (North Attleboro) – North Attleboro earned 106.5 points to take eight place overall at the Ashland Early Bird Tournament to kick off the season. Tanner Ferguson (106) picked up the first tournament win for the Rocketeers, earning two pinfall victories, including one in the final over the top seed. Michael Edmonds (170) and Montrel Jackson (182) each had third place finishes for the Big Red.

Devin Ness Tournament (Oliver Ames) – Oliver Ames hosted its annual Devin Ness Invitational to kick off the 2019-2020 season, with the Tigers taking fifth overall with 144.5 points. Ness was a captain on the OA wrestling team that died unexpectedly in January 2013, and the Tigers have hosted this memorial tournament since the start of the 2013-2014 season. Senior Max Anderson opened the season in style, winning the 195 bracket. Anderson won his first two matches by fall, the semifinal matchup by major decision, and then pinned his opponent in 1:52 to win the bracket. Stavros Constantinou (120) and Remi Creighton (126), and Gavin Morrison (285) each earned third place finishes for the Tigers.

Watertown Quad (Taunton) – Taunton’s Luke Fraga and Ethan Harris both went undefeated on the day while the Tigers post a 1-2 record at the quad meet. Taunton knocked off Carver (48-18) but suffered setbacks to Norwood (24-45) and Watertown (27-41). Fraga went 3-0 wrestling at 113 while Harris had three wins at 152. Taunton’s Christian Balmain (160), Nico Sallaway (170), 182 Peter Ye (182), and Sean Guilmette (195) each had two wins.

Foxboro, 51 @ King Philip, 59 – FinalFoxboro won a pair of relays and one solo event but came up just short against King Philip. Kris Anderson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:29, and was a member of the winner 200 relay with Anthony Amico, Dimitrios Davis, and Jared Roke (2:11). Foxboro’s 400 relay team of Marek Stone, Amico, Roke, and Joseph St. Pierre won in 5:17.

Foxboro, 77 @ King Philip, 97 – FinalFoxboro’s Megan Lanthrop recorded a pair of sectional qualifying times in the meet against King Philip. Lanthrop won the 100 fly with a time of 1:06, and took second overall in the 500 free in 5:51.
