Franklin, 38 vs. Walpole, 52 – Final

Oliver Ames, 58 vs. Dartmouth, 51 – FinalThe game was tied at 39 apiece after three quarters but Avery Gamble came through with a pair of threes and 12 of her team-high 25 points in the final frame to lift the Tigers to a win in the opening round of the St. Mary’s tournament. With the win, OA has clinched a return to the postseason. On a quick turnaround from Friday night’s game against Foxboro, the Tigers got off to a strong start on Saturday, winning the first quarter 16-11. Gamble had a quick six points and Kamryn and Kaydance Derba combined for nine in the opening eight minutes. The Tigers tacked another point onto their lead in the second, as Kamryn Derba and Maddie Homer scored four apiece to make it 30-24 at the break. In the third quarter, Dartmouth’s star sophomore Kat Cheesbro caught fire, burying a pair of threes and scoring 11 of her team’s 15 points to help the Indians tie things up. Cheesbro would finish with a game-high 27. In the fourth, it was Gamble’s turn to respond. The freshman hit a pair from beyond and three shots from inside the arc. Kaydance Derba chipped in with three more and Katherine Farley and Annie Reilly each added a bucket to help the Tigers pull out a crucial win. Kamryn Derba scored 10 in the game, while Kaydance added seven. Maddie Homer and Farley each finished with six points. OA will face Malden Catholic in the tournament finale on Monday at 5:15.

Boys Hockey
Attleboro, 4 @ Bellingham, 1 – FinalLocked in a 1-1 tie, Attleboro erupted for three goals in the third period earn a win over Bellingham. The hosts took a lead less than two minutes into the game but Attleboro pulled level on a goal from Colin Flynn (from Bryan Capone) at 11:40 of the second period. Eighth grader Cameron Harrison provided a highlight reel goal to put the Bombardiers ahead, carrying the puck from his own end past the defense and flipped one short side on the goalie to make it 2-1. Michael Lachance added a goal four minutes later and Beckett Stone buried an insurance goal with just over six minutes to play. Sophomore Austin Bessette and eighth grader Drew Bessette both had strong performances in the win. Julien Horton had the win in net for Attleboro.

Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 2 – Final (OT)Franklin scored early in the third period to tie the game and eventually force overtime but Canton senior Griffin Hughes delivered the game-winner in overtime as the Bulldogs and Panthers split the season series one win apiece. Junior Colin Blake gave the Bulldogs the lead, burying a rebound in the first period but Franklin junior Anthony Lampasona finished off a pass from classmate Ben Paterson just a minute into the third period to tie it.

King Philip, 3 @ Walpole, 3 – Final

Mansfield, 5 vs. North Attleboro, 6 – FinalNorth Attleboro used a big third period to skate past Hock rival Mansfield in a non-league clash at Rodman Arena. Mark Ayvazyan, Kaden Burns, and Joe Quinn each scored a pair of goals to pace the offense. Ayvazyan also registered a pair of assists for a four-point performance, Brody Gaulin and Jake Santucci also had two helpers apiece, and Jack Julio and Jacob Conley each have one assist. Nate Kelly made 26 saves in the win. For Mansfield, Thomas Gormley scored twice and James Warren, Ryan DiGirolamo, and Cody Gordon each scored once.

Oliver Ames, 3 vs. Plymouth South, 2 – FinalDan Paul, Jack Perron, and Matt Lawson each scored as Oliver Ames picked up an impressive win over Plymouth South, a top 10 ranked team in Division 2. Sean Kearns notched a pair of assists while Brendan Teehan, Bryce Deibel, and Perron each had one.

Stoughton/Brockton, 3 vs. Middleboro, 4 – Final (OT)Anthony DeSousa, Charlie Caputo and Sean Farley each scored once for the Black Knights but Middleboro prevailed in overtime.

Girls Hockey
King Philip, 4 @ Braintree, 3 – FinalKing Philip went on the road and scored a key 4-3 win over Braintree, who entered the game five spots ahead of the Warriors in the latest MIAA rankings. Kelly Holmes paced the offense with a pair of goals and one assists while Mara Boldy and Katie McGann each found the back of the net once. Ella Morgan added an assist while Mallory Johnston turned aside 23 shots in the win.

Attleboro, 1 @ Diman, 3 – FinalAttleboro scored midway through the second period to get within a goal but Diman tacked on an insurance goal in the third for the win. Colin Flynn scored at the eight minute mark of the second off an assist from Mike Lachance. Jake Westwater made 24 saves in net for the Bombardiers.

Foxboro, 0 @ Stoughton/Brockton, 2 – FinalSean Farley and Owen Dupont each scored once for the Black Knights and Sean McGowan notched his first career shutout as Stoughton/Brockton avenged a loss to the Warriors from earlier in the season. McGowan recorded 25 saves to blank the Warriors and earn the win.

King Philip, 3 vs. Norwood, 3 – Final

North Attleboro, 6 @ Medway, 1 – Final

Girls Hockey
Canton, 2 vs. Archbishop Williams, 1 – FinalAudrey Koen scored with six minutes left in the third period to break the 1-1 tie and secure Canton a win over a fellow Div. 2 state title contender. The Bulldogs took the lead in the first period when Tori Carr’s initial shot was saved and Ellie Bohane pounced on the rebound to knock it in. After Archies, which was the top-ranked team in D2 before this weekend’s loss to No. 2-ranked Duxbury, tied the game in the second, but then Koen collected the puck in the neutral zone, drove at the goal, and fired a wrister that proved to be the winner.

King Philip, 6 vs. Arlington Catholic, 1 – FinalKelly Holmes, who over the weekend hit the 100-point mark for her career, scored four goals to lead the Warriors to a big win. Mara Boldy added a goal and an assist and Katie McGann found the back of the net once. Nicole McDonald, Grace Lehan-Allen, and Katarina Precobb each recorded an assist. Mallory Johnston and Haley Bright combined for 22 saves in the win.

Canton, 11 @ Attleboro, 1 – FinalSophomore Travis Thomas recorded a hat trick while juniors Pat Drury and Brian Middleton each scored twice to lead Canton to a league win on the road. Attleboro’s Colin Flynn had one goal with an assist from Michael LaChance.

Foxboro, 0 @ Northbridge, 3 – Final

King Philip, 1 @ Franklin, 3 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game.Franklin lit the lamp twice in the second period and tacked on an empty net goal with 20 seconds to play to secure a league win over rival King Philip. The Panthers picked up a big win over the Warriors last month but this one played out much closer. After a scoreless first period, Ben Paterson put the Panthers ahead off a pass from Zach Langevin to make it 1-0. Franklin doubled the lead at 5:22 in the second when Dylan McEvoy buried a feed from Ryan Sicchio. KP junior Tim Mullen slammed in a pass from classmate Nate Garstka with 9:39 to go but the Panthers held on. Ben Jarosz scored the empty-net goal for Franklin.

Mansfield, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – FinalOliver Ames built its lead with one goal in each the first and the second periods and used a late empty net goal to cap off a win over Mansfield. Freshman Brendan Teehan gave the Tigers the lead at 7:22 of the first period and Jack Corey doubled the lead at 8:15 of the second period. Mansfield sophomore Brendan Vokey cut the deficit in half with a goal at 7:28 of the third period but the Hornets had some penalties down the stretch, and an empty-net power play goal from Sean McCarthy with 4.1 seconds left iced the game.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Taunton, 1 – Final (OT)Taunton senior Dylan McCaughey buried the game-winner less than two minutes into the overtime period to hand the Tigers a 1-0 league win over North Attleboro. Taunton sophomore Cam Tomaszycki (29 saves) and North Attleboro junior Kyle Gruber (31 saves) kept the game scoreless for three periods. In overtime, Taunton senior Connor McGrath used a self pass off the boards to create some separation, skated towards the goal and slid a pass across the middle that McCaughey slammed home for the win.

Girls Hockey
Canton, 2 @ Medfield, 0 – Final

King Philip, 3 @ Westwood, 1 – FinalKelly Holmes had a hand in all three goals as King Philip picked up a solid non-league road win. Holmes finished with a goal and two helpers. Nicole McDonald (assist) and Katarina Precobb both scored and Mallory Johnston made 40 saves for the Hockomock League leaders.

Hockomock Stars, 3 vs. Medway, 10 – Final

Attleboro, 2 vs. Holliston, 1 – FinalHolliston pulled level in the second period but Attleboro answered back two minutes later and never let the lead disappear to secure a 2-1 decision. The Bombardiers took the lead just past the midway point of the opening period on a goal from Colin Flynn with an assist from Beckett Stone. After Holliston tied the game at 1-1 at 10:36 of the second on a 5-on-3 power play, Owen Parker lit the lamp — with assists from Stone and Cameron Harrison — just over two minutes later to put the hosts back in front. Attleboro goalie Julien Horton had a strong game in net with 32 saves, helping the Bombardiers kill off a penalty for the final 2:47 of the game.

Canton, 3 @ Newburyport, 0 – Final

Stoughton/Brockton, 3 @ North Quincy, 7 – FinalSean Farley, Will Corvino, and Colby Strunk each scored once for the Black Knights but Stoughton fell on the road to North Quincy.

Taunton, 9 vs. Middleboro, 3 – FinalTaunton’s Colton Scheralis and Tre Nadeau each had five points on the day to help the Tigers avenge a loss from earlier in the season to Middleboro with a 9-3 win at home. Scheralis and Nadeau each scored a hat trick and added a pair of assists while Connor McGrath notched three assists, Dylan McCaughey had a goal and two helpers, and both Breighdyn Simmons and Jamie Valarelli each scored once and had one assist. Cam Tomaszycki made 18 saves in the win.

Boys Basketball
Canton, 67 vs. Bishop Feehan, 65 – Final (OT)Canton’s Matt Chafin hit a late three to help the Bulldogs force overtime and both Zaza Francoeur and Julius Hicks connected from downtown in the extra period in a win over Bishop Feehan. With the Shamrocks up by a point, Chafin (18 points) hit a corner three with under 10 seconds to go to make it 53-51. Feehan hit a layup at the buzzer to force overtime. Jamaal McConnell (18 points) opened the extra period with a traditional three-point play and then hit Francoeur (14 points) for a three on Canton’s next trip up the court. After Feehan closed the deficit down to two, Chafin drove to the layup for a bucket late in the shot clock. Hicks added a three on Canton’s next possession to push it to 64-59. Chafin added a key free throw in the final seconds to ice the win.

Foxboro, 82 @ Hopkinton, 80 – Final (OT)Foxboro senior Sam Golub erupted for a career-high 40 points to help the Warriors topple the Hillers on the road. The Warriors staked a lead after the first quarter after connecting on five threes in the opening eight minutes, including three from Golub. But Hopkinton rallied to take the lead at halftime (33-31) and increased it to 60-52 going into the final quarter. Golub hit three more three-pointers in the third to keep the Warriors close, and Foxboro held the hosts to just 10 points in the fourth to rally back. Golub had seven more in the fourth while Ryan LeClair (11 points), Ryan Cotter (11 points), and Alex Penders (11 points) also scored to bring Foxboro back in it. In overtime, Golub stayed hot with four field goals, including one more three for a total of eight for the game, and Penders had a big block in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Oliver Ames vs. Cardinal Spellman, 6:30

Stoughton, 59 vs. Medway, 55 – FinalTrailing by two with under a minute to go, Stoughton finished off its comeback with a 7-1 run over the final 50 seconds to take down visiting Medway. Jarred Daughtry (11 points) cut the deficit to one with a free throw, and off a miss from the line, Tagh Swierzewski kept the play alive and Jayden Costa-Haywood, who scored a team-high 23 points, converted the putback for the lead. Stoughton got a stop on defense and Liam Pearl hit two from the line with 24.1 seconds to go to extend the lead to 57-54. Medway was off the mark on two free throws on their end and sophomore Matt Greenspoon iced the game with two more free throws with 1.6 seconds to go. Costa-Haywood scored 11 points in the fourth while Swierzewski, Greenspoon, and freshman Anthony Alessi each had a three in the final frame.

Taunton, 61 vs. Dartmouth, 57 – FinalAfter letting a halftime lead slip away in the third quarter, Taunton finished strong with 22-point fourth quarter to pick up the win and snap Dartmouth’s unbeaten start to the season. The Tigers cashed in from the free throw line in the fourth, going 9-for-13 from the line over the final eight minutes. Junior Troy Santos scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half while junior Tyson Carter gave Taunton a huge boost with a career-high 14 points. Chris Perault had nine points all in the first half and freshman Jakari Innocent added nine points, including five in the fourth quarter.

King Philip, 59 vs. Leominster, 51 – FinalKing Philip played its best defensive game of the season to hand Leominster its first loss of the season. The Warriors held the Blue Devils to just nine points in the second quarter as KP turned a one-point deficit at the end of the first quarter into a five point halftime lead. KP kept its distance with a 40-33 lead going into the fourth and then went 9-for-12 from the line in the final eight minutes to ice the win. Senior Will Laplante hit four three-pointers and poured in a game-high 25 points to pace the KP offense while Tommy Martorano tossed in a trio of triples and finished with 14 points. Sophomore Tommy Kilroy had five points but also played outstanding defensive game for KP. King Philip will take on Framingham at 4:00 on Thursday.








Girls Basketball
Franklin, 70 vs. Carlsbad (Calif.), 54 – FinalFranklin had five players score in double figures and dominated on the glass to overcome 32 points from Carlsbad star Madison Huhn and pick up a non-league win and hand head coach John Leighton his 300th career victory. The Panthers jumped out to a quick start, scoring 21 points in the first and building an 11-point lead. Huhn, who is committed to Miami (Ohio), caught fire in the second, with 18 of her team’s 21 points to cut the lead down to five at the break. After a nearly even third quarter, the Panthers exploded for 21 points in the fourth to break things open and seal the win. Katie Peterson was the top scorer for the Panthers with 21 points, including seven in the first and eight in the third quarter. Sophomore Chloe Fales added 13 points, knocking down three from beyond the arc, including a pair of triples in the fourth to help Franklin pull away. Bridget Leo scored 11 points, six of them in the first, and Lizzie Newman and Caelyn Leonard each added 10 points.

King Philip, 34 @ Framingham, 71 – Final

Oliver Ames, 29 vs. Walpole, 49 – FinalOA was held to only four points in the second quarter and six in the fourth, as the Tigers fell in the opener of the Sue Rivard Tournament. Walpole led by three after one, but a 12-4 second quarter opened up a double digit advantage (24-13) at halftime. The Tigers had a solid start to the second half, but Walpole built the lead back to 12 after three and didn’t look back. Sarah Hilliard led OA for the second straight game, scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. Maddie Homer chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds. OA will face Bishop Fenwick in the consolation round.

Sharon, 61 vs. Silver Lake, 58 – FinalJasmine Davis was unstoppable on Wednesday, scoring 34 points and grabbing 26 rebounds to lead the Eagles to the final of the Quincy Holiday Tournament. Davis also dished out three assists and had a pair of steals and blocks. In the closing seconds, her two free throws sealed the win for Sharon. Carmen Leonardi (six points, three boards, and two assists), Eva Poulton (six points), and Thea Caproni (five points) also gave the Eagles solid all-around performances. Sharon faces the host team in the tournament final.

Boys Hockey
Attleboro, 2 @ Norton, 9 – FinalAttleboro scored once in the first period and once in the third but the Bombardiers weren’t able to recover from four goals in the first seven minutes by Norton. Nick Fernandes scored off of an assist from Michael Lachance with three minutes to go in the first period while sophomore Austin Bessette scored his first career goal just over three minutes into the third with assists from Colin Flynn and Owen Parker.

Lowell Tournament (Foxboro, Franklin, Milford), 12:00

Marshfield Holiday Tournament – Taunton had one champion and two finalists and finished third as a team while Sharon had three finalists to earn fifth overall at the Marshfield Holiday Tournament. Taunton’s Ethan Harris was the top seed in the 182 bracket and used a pair of falls and one decision while Sharon’s Cormac Horlbogen, the second seed, had two decisions and one fall to each reach the final. Harris took the individual bracket with a 16-2 major decision in the final. Taunton’s Ben Mandeville (145) and Logan Frank (220) and Sharon’s Ashmith Yeruva (106) and Cam Birnbaum (126) all reached the finals. North Attleboro was 18th overall with Austin Dean (160) taking fourth, Mansfield was 22nd with Colton Johnson taking first in the 220 bracket, and Oliver Ames finished 27th with Nathan Lipski (145) finishing sixth.
