Boys Basketball
King Philip, 56 @ Mansfield, 75 – FinalMansfield senior Matt Boen poured in 30 points to lead the Hornets to a season-opening win over King Philip. The Hornets raced out to a 22-13 lead after one quarter, extended it to 40-24 by halftime, and put the game away with 26 points in the third quarter. Boen added six assists, five rebounds, five steals, and two blocks in a stellar all-around performance. Freshman Trevor Foley added 10 points and five rebounds in his debut and senior TJ Guy finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. King Philip sophomore Will Laplante impressed in his debut, hitting five three-pointers for 18 points.

Girls Basketball
Canton, 48 @ North Attleboro, 32 – FinalFay Gallery and Kiara Cerruti combined for 40 of Canton’s 48 points, as the Bulldogs rolled to a big road win in the season opener for both teams. Gallery got things going for Canton with 10 points in the first and the Bulldogs built a 14-6 lead. The visitors broke the game open in the second and took a 19-point edge into halftime. Gallery scored nine more before the break and had 19 of her game-high 22 in the first half. Cerruti scored seven in the second, added four in a low-scoring third quarter, and closed out the game with seven more in the fourth, finishing with 18 total. Summer Doherty led North with nine points, including seven in the third, Amanda Kaiser added six, and Taylor McMath had five.

Boys Hockey
North Attleboro, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – FinalNorth Attleboro exploded for four goals in the middle period to earn a season-opening win on the road over Oliver Ames at Asiaf Arena. Jake Gruber redirected a shot from Sean Mahoney to put the Rocketeers on the board and goalie Jimmy Burtch denied a Tiger penalty shot in the first. In the second, Nik Kojoian, Brady Sarro, Mark Ayvazyan, and Charlie Connolly each found the back of the net. Ross Carroll scored for OA in the second period. Sophomore Brandon Burke made 41 saves for the Tigers.

Franklin, 4 @ Foxboro, 2 – FinalFranklin scored three straight goals between the first and second periods to seize the lead, and tacked on an empty net goal with just four seconds to go to earn a hard-fought win over Foxboro. Thomas Marcucella scored midway through the opening period to put Foxboro ahead 1-0 but Franklin’s Dylan Marchand tied it up with under two minutes to go in the period. Justin Abely scored to put the Panthers up 2-1 with 5:42 left in the second and Sean Connelly scored two minutes later to make it 3-1. Foxboro’s Brady Daly cut into the deficit and the Warriors had a power play chance that followed but couldn’t find the tying goal. Marchand iced it with the empty net goal. Will Sheehan had two assists for Franklin while JT Dwyer and Ben Jarosz each had one. Jack Paterson (27 saves) earned the win in net.

Attleboro, 0 @ Canton, 7 – FinalCanton scored three goals in the opening period and added four more in the third to pick up a win over Attleboro in the first game of the season for both teams. Eamon Kelly scored twice while AJ Thomas, Jeff Chaput, Dylan Coyne, Tommy Phaneuf, and James Delello each scored once in the win.

Foxboro, 8 @ Tri-County, 2 – FinalFoxboro senior Brendan Tully recorded five points and Ronnie MacLellan added four points in a win on the road. Tully scored a hat trick and added two assists, MacLellan had three assists and a goal, and Brady Daly, Matt Tully, Tanner Kennedy, and John Watts each scored once for the Warriors.

Mansfield, 9 vs. Brockton, 3 – Final Mansfield scored three goals in the second period to go ahead 5-2 and added four goals in the third period to secure the win over the visiting Boxers. Sophomore Matt Copponi had a pair of goals and three assists, senior Chris Copponi scored once and had three assists, senior Jack Garland scored twice and had one helper, and junior Kevin Belanger finished with a goal and assist for the Hornets.

Stoughton, 1 @ Taunton, 5 – FinalTaunton skated to its second win of the season over the Black Knights behind multi-point games from Mike Albert, Dylan Nichols, Cam Sneyd, and Nathan Fernandes. Albert had a goal and two assists, Nichols and Sneyd each scored once and added an assist, and Fernandes finished with two helpers. Seniors Jack Patneaude and Nick Vandermeel each had assists in the win and freshman Ethan Ross added a goal.

Girls Hockey
Canton, 0 @ Franklin, 0 – FinalClick here for a photo gallery of this game. – The top two teams in the Hockomock skated to a scoreless tie, but not for a lack of chances. Both defenses played strong and each team had just one power play: Franklin late in the third period and Canton for the final 30 seconds of the game. Franklin goalie Gabby Colace made 16 saves for the shutout. “She played outstanding tonight, she made a couple of saves that really kept us in the game,” said Franklin coach Margie Burke. Canton netminder Ava Pacitti earned the shutout with 14 saves. “Ava has come so far, she barely saw any time last year and she’s just playing incredible hockey,” said Canton coach Dennis Aldrich. “The girls rally around her. That was the best high school hockey game I’ve been involved this year.”

King Philip, 1 @ Mansfield/Oliver Ames, 2 – FinalMOA’s Skyler Sharfman took the puck the length of the ice before depositing her a shot into the back of the net early in the third period to give the Warriors a win at home. MOA went up 1-0 on a power play goal in the second period when Kenzi Fraser converted a chance with assists going to Isabelle Shanteler and Emma Pereira. KP responded with a power play goal off the stick of Alli Meehan. Sharfman scored the game-winner with 11:17 left in the third period.

Wrestling
North Attleboro, 30 @ Franklin, 34 – Final

Taunton, 25 vs. Coyle & Cassidy, 42 – FinalJames Collins (106), Christina Balmain (152), Candido Santos (170), Jackson Wellman (182), and Avery Justa (220) picked up wins for Taunton but the Tigers suffered a setback to Coyle/Bristol Plymouth.

Attleboro, 60 @ Foxboro, 32 – FinalClick here for a photo gallery from this game. – Attleboro junior Lorenzo Wilson came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points, including seven straight in the second quarter that ballooned a 6-0 run into a 13-2 spurt that gave the Bombardiers first half separation. “He’s been working very hard in practice, you can see where our strength is we want to go inside out, and we didn’t skip a beat with him in there,” said Attleboro head coach Mark Houle. “He’s been finishing stronger too, it was great to see him have a good game today.” Attleboro led 11-10 late in the first but finished with a 6-0 burst, and then opened the second behind Wilson with a 7-2 run to make it 24-12. Attleboro led 30-14 at half and 45-25 heading into the final quarter. Junior Qualeem Charles added 14 points and six boards and Mason Houle had 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists for the Bombardiers. Foxboro sophomore Kevin Gallagher had a team-high 12 points.

Girls Basketball
Foxboro, 64 @ Attleboro, 36 – FinalKatelyn Mollica led the unbeaten Warriors to a big road win, scoring a game-high 19 points. Abby Hassman added 13 and Lizzy Davis had 12 for Foxboro.

Boys Hockey
Foxboro, 5 vs. Norton, 2 – FinalClick here for a Photo Gallery from this game. Jack Watts scored a pair of goals to lead Foxboro to a season sweep of the Lancers. Foxboro opened the scoring in the first period when Kirk Leach took and outlet pass from Brendan Tully and beat the Norton goalie over the glove side. The Warriors added three goals in the second period to take control of the game. Watts and Ronnie MacLellan each scored on rebounds, after saves by Norton goalie Mitchell Doctor (of Sharon) and then Brady Daly scored on a quick transition that caught the Norton defense pinching up the boards in the offensive zone. Norton cut the lead in half with two goals within 19 seconds of each other late in the third period, the second by Sharon’s Jared Flueckiger, but Watts scored on a two-man advantage (assisted by Leach and MacLellan) to seal the points.

Attleboro, 8 @ Weston, 1 – Final Attleboro junior Cam Litig record a hat trick, helping the Bombardiers avenge a loss to Weston from earlier this season and punch its ticket into the state tournament via the Sullivan Rule. Weston beat the Bombardiers 4-3 at the end of December. Jake Parker and Zack Pierce each added a pair of goals in the win.

Foxboro, 3 vs. Norton, 2 – FinalFoxboro punched its ticket to the postseason via the Sullivan Rule, taking down D3 foe Norton 3-2. The Warriors built a 2-0 lead behind goals from Brady Daly and Taylor Sharfman. Norton tied the game but Kirk Leach scored the game-winner late in the second period.

Franklin, 1 @ St. John’s Shrewsbury, 5 – Final

Oliver Ames, 5 @ Quincy, 2 – FinalOliver Ames junior Brett Williams scored a hat trick to help the Tigers skate past Quincy. OA held a 35-22 advantage in shots on goal with junior Colin Bourne and senior Eric LeBlanc also tallying goals in the win.

Taunton, 11 @ Durfee, 1 – FinalTaunton freshman Jordan Couto scored his first career goal and then added two more to record a hat trick in the Tigers’ win over Durfee. Cam Sneyd scored twice and had an assist, while Mike Albert, Will Walsh, Haden Weyant and Cam Faria each had one goal and two assists. Taunton moved to within two points of qualifying for the tournament with three games left.
